     “Elvira?” the automobile commented, volume slightly louder than usual as he looped past the elder duck’s home in search of her. If it had been later in the day, he would have waited in front of the house after arriving, but he assumed at this hour she would be outside, tending to the organic creatures categorized as farm animals.

     “Good morning,” the vehicle soon greeted.

Now quilts, like may things, vary from culture to culture. Patterns are simply descovered and made populer in different areas around the world. That of course, hasn't ever stopped Elvira from learning them. So for Goldie, she does something special. She took the French Braid Quilt block and the Irish Cross Quilt block and she brought them together in a single pattern. With blues, golds, and silvers she made a complex harmony, unique as it was beautiful. - Elvira

     It has been a long time since Goldie was as touched by a gift from someone other than Scrooge as much as she was by this. It echoed heritage and the reputation of things that went along with them, such as the Irish temper she carried, but more than that, it represented her parents who had not lived such long lives as Elvira. The elder duck reminded her of them at times, but this… this was an object made with care, that not only reminded, but provided something she could hold, and bundle up in at any time.

     She cannot resist doing just that, within seconds after unfolding the gift, burrowing until her silver feathers were all that remained visible. For a moment, she vaguely recalled how it once felt to be a child bundled safely in bed at home, and she treasured it.

     Elvira will receive a very strong hug in the near future.

“Elvira!” Scrooge quickly rushed up to her as she approached. “Are ye alright?” Della had told him that the invasion had spread, he just hoped the farm wasn’t too badly damaged. “Fethry an’ Gladstone are around here somewhere, but are ye hurt?”

Elvira is sitting on Abner's front porch. Waiting for him to return from whatever he was doing out and about that day. "We need to have a heart to heart."

Oh. Oh no.

"Grandma? I... I don't know what you're talking about, but I really have a lot of work to do, so..."

It was a big fat lie. But Abner didn't want to open up, and Grandma was getting too close to the truth, so the lumberjack was avoiding her. But even so he would never be rude to Elvira!

"...Sorry, but I gotta go back to the woods..."

Elvira is listening to Walter's latest story (read: rant) about a certain squirrel. She nods her head along at the appropriate spots, waiting until there's a lul to speak up. "And when are you gonna ask her out on date?"

The wolf wasn’t sure how he got to talking to the duck (or even who she was), but she was right there and he had a lot on his mind and…well, once he started venting, he couldn’t stop. After what seemed like a year, he paused to take a sip of coffee (tea wasn’t really his thing), only to spit it back out immediately. 

“WHAT?”

Her hand met his cheek and his eyes slid shut, leaning into the touch. He could feel her. He could actually feel her! She was there! But—something nagged away at him. He opened his eyes again, and knew in the back of his mind that something wasn’t right. Though at the moment, that didn’t matter. She was there, right in front of him. That was all that mattered!

A smile spread up his face, and he nuzzled his cheek further into her palm, his own hand coming up to rest upon the back of it. “I miss you.”

“I want to go home.”

“That’s right, they are.” Elvira runs a hand along the symbols painted beside her front door. “They’re hex signs. My husband painted and carved them everywhere.”

Blue eyes studied the artwork with intensity, admiring the colors and shapes that dotted the old wall. They were very beautiful, but the word ‘hex’ is what caught Clementine’s extreme interest. These weren’t the same hex symbols she’s come to known over years of experience and exposure. Those were simple and linear, intended to be carved quickly and efficiently on trinkets for protection and spells.

Was...Elvira...a...

The doll’s eyes slowly moved to stare at the duck from the corner of her vision. She...didn’t look like one. Besides, if she was, wouldn’t she be able to sense Clementine’s...condition? She hasn’t made any comment that stood out, and there was no mural of worship for their deity on sight.

...Maybe Clementine was looking too deep into it. These...could just be a different kind of ‘hex’. Maybe Elvira followed a different set of traditions. Or maybe these were just harmless, detailed artworks.

“...They’re very beautiful.” She said those words with her usual smile, going back to her innocent and cheery nature. It wasn’t a lie. There were very beautiful. “I really like the birdy ones. They’re super cute!”
