Arbitrary Token of the Week: Unwavering Initiate (AKH)
This week’s arbitrary token is Greg Opalinski’s 3/2 white Zombie Human Warrior creature token named Unwavering Initiate with vigilance, created by Unwavering Initiate from Amonkhet. Juxtaposing the card and its token creates an artistic symmetry that can also be seen in how the two are played with mechanically: the original Unwavering Initiate holds his spear and stands in a defensive position, with vigilance being the keyword here that allows him to block opposing creatures, whereas the embalmed Unwavering Initiate holds his spear offensively, ready to attack with nothing to lose.
One more thing to note: the man depicted in the art is missing his right hand, suggesting there was a past event in which he lost it. I love art that tells a story all on its own. Oh, and don’t forget the shadow of Bolas’ horns loomed over the embalmed Initiate!
