This led to more fun! Being unfamiliar with the term”Paternoster,” I Googled it and discovered the amazing continuous-loop, open door, European building lift by the same name that is nearly extinct!
yes !

With its ‘Paris wheel’ principles, you’ll never have to wait for your turn. There are no doors and no buttons to maneuver – you just walk right into a booth and jump right out when you reach your floor. With the principle of a ‘Paris wheel’ you can take a round-tour without being trapped between two floors. Some mental focus is definitely needed when stepping into and out of the elevator, but after a couple of tries, you will have broken the code.
embeeness replied to your post: “My chickens bring all the hawks to the yard... Just had a stand off...”:
Your yard must seem like a bit of a buffet to that hawk.
Oh Em! You are so right (and ty for noticing the fence -- a while back, i don’t think ever replied :/ but i appreciated it. the fencers did do a good job... i’m paying for it, but it’s soooo worth it) -- my yard is a clearing that makes a table for any flying raptor. I’m sure that cooper’s hawk/sharp shin we saw has snatched some wild birds from my yard, too.
I left the chickens in the coop and built a fire while out there before i came in to eat lunch. {hoping the hawk will also eat elsewhere!} Then i’m going to go back out and piddle around for a bit so I can keep an eye over the womhens while they graze. 🖤 {silly pain in the ass chickens can’t even take care of themselves ;} 🐓❤️

Oh! You’ve got a coop! Awesome!
I know right!! The best part is... WE BUILT IT ALL OURSELVES. truly, it is almost all Lydia - she is a miracle with tools and her hands. I’m just a willing assistant. she has planned and purchased and hauled and unloaded and cut every single piece and personally put in every screw in that coop so far. she has two gorgeous pieces of dark brown corrugated roof tin for the roof to go on yet and of course, tons of paint and trim. she is away in TN at permaculture design school until Sunday but expect updates as the coop gets ongoing upgrades into the winter. (we have insulation and interior paneling and light and a switch and a grate to go over the radiant heater... fun stuffs!!!

so big already! if you get an aggressive rooster (one that will chase the hens) get rid of it. we had a crazy little white one that stressed the hens out so much & that's not what a rooster is meant to do
They are definitely growing - visibly - every single day. And their appetites correspond! The plan was not to keep any roosters... but alas, there definitely seems to be 2 for sure so far - one we like (Winnie) and don’t so much like the other who is a bit of a bully (Fran). Both of those are Wyandottes (brown feathered). The ones I’m really keeping my fingers crossed about are the light sussex... I really like them a lot - their personalities and their looks... I hope they are not both roosters. Please, everybody (all together now) keep your fingers crossed for us.

Your property is so beautiful - and sometimes, sacrifices must be made. Sorry for your loss. Thoughts and prayers
thanks so much... I’ve really developed -- quite the relationship with this space and the things in it over the last 11 years. feeling so fortunate. 🖤
