Lost

Lost, that is how I feel after my wife left yesterday to return home. I miss her presence. I miss her food, her laugh, her daily prayers. She prayed for me, she was the one that kept the thin bond that I maintained with my origin country. 

How could someone dislike progress? I don’t understand it. I brought her to this beautiful city and freed her from all the difficulties she could have. She had so much potential and so many opportunities of becoming whoever she wanted to be. Who would ever waste such a bright future? 

The room feels empathy once again and I cannot stand looking at her praying mat. It is a reminder of my more recent failure. How did I not notice how depressed she was? No… I did notice. I saw how little by little the fire in her eyes began to die out. She told me over and over again how much she missed home, her own vision of a bright future, but I didn’t want to listen. I was busy thinking about my own bright future. I kept my mind in math and projects to grow here. I was blinded by a perfect civilization

A civilization that at the end of the day would never completely accept me as a part of it. A civilization that criticizes my culture without trying to understand how beautiful it is, how united the people in Sudan are. Why did I stop praying? I don’t remember anymore…

Hope everyone is still hanging in there? It’s six weeks weeks in lockdown now and we are doing really well. Let’s stay strong as this is the hard bit. We don’t want to undo all our good work by breaking the lockdown. Think of the party we will have when this is over! We can see our loved ones in person (still remaining 2metres apart) I think in terms of hairdressers we will remain in lockdown for another 4-6 weeks and then reassess so #embraceyourroots #showyouroots Remember it will be worth it so stay strong everyone and the light at the end of the tunnel will get bigger. So appropriate for today’s situation. We are all under pressure today from numerous issues - the NHS protecting us, families living in close confines, elderly at risk, business owners, employees, parents teaching, key workers everywhere and many more.
