Embroidery Challenge - 5th February 2021

It’s been a while since my last “Embroidery Challenge” post!  This little metal thread on green velvet piece was a rescue from a deceased estate.  My challenge was to finish the work begun by an unknown embroiderer. One leaf, the stems, some of the chipping and tendrils had been worked.  It’s a Tanya Berlin design and may have been begun in early 2013 according to a card in amongst the bits and bobs.

I have a pattern for one of these that I am seriously considering trying.  It goes by the totally not sexy name of “an embroidered casket.”  It is essentially an embroidered jewelry box that opens up to many tiny drawers.  This particular example is from an old Christie’s Auction where it was described as “ An embroidered casket, the fronts worked with angels taking tea, and with the Sacrifice of Isaac, and many three dimensional fruits and flowers, signed Leonora Jenner, 1940--13in x 12in x 9in, 20th century in 17th century style “   The embroidery on many of these is actually not terribly complex - now putting together the actual box is another story entirely. :)  We shall see...
