Hope everyone is doing well. I know it has been a while since I posted so thought I'd show a quick update on my big project with a couple of close ups. Getting in the home stretch for the side of the house.

Hey everyone, just a quick update on my latest project. This is the side of the dollhouse.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year everyone! So I have finally finished my Scythian project. The top shows the finished piece hanging on my wall. The next two show some close ups of the yurt and of the sky. Instead of just leaving a plain old beige cloth, I decided to fill it all with overlapping birds. Since the piece was inspired by the Ancient Scythian culture of the Central Asian Steppes I wanted the overlapping birds to symbolize how throughout all the centuries birds have traveled through the skies at varying heights and times of day etc. So in essence the myriad of birds represent the passage of time from long past through the present. Well that's the idea I had anyway. The bottom pic is of the completed piece as seen in my kitchen. The interesting thing is depending what sort of lighting you have as you can see the piece itself changes its overall color tone too which I think is pretty cool. So anyway, would love to know what you think.
So a quick update on my second project I'm working on. The yurt is complete, as is the figure and border. Now I'm just working on the sky. I could have left it all blank, but hey if there's room then there's always something you can fill it with. I decided on an abstract bird design in sunshine colors....see what you think.
Happy July 4th America! Here's my latest update on the big project. The top is an overview of everything I have done so far. On the bottom left you can see the original design for the top bit and on the bottom right you can see I redesigned it. Much happier with it now. I often redesign stuff once I get working on it. Hope you like it!
Ran across a really beautiful Greek word today: ποικιλία. It was described as "denoting the synaesthetic corporeal experience of the presence effects played out on material surfaces exposed to shifts in ambient conditions." For example, the word comes from the verb ποικιλοω meaning "to embroider." It was used in Homer's Iliad to describe woven cloth used as clothing as well as the surface of iron armor. Both embody the phemenological/cognitive triggers that make you breathless on occasion as colors, shapes and textures vary with motion and light.
One more retro pic for you. This was my interpretation of a Carpathian piece. Very, very small it is just slightly bigger than my hand.
So I thought while I keep working on the new projects I'd throw up some retro pics of projects I've done in previous years that I still really like. This was my tribute to Mezen painting several years ago.
Hey everyone, just a quick update on my progress so far on the dollhouse. On the right is the latest finished section and on the left the whole thing so far.
Just a quick update from the current panel I'm working on for the giant doll house. I really loved this section, very detailed but I think it looks good so far.
A quick update on my 2nd project. Finally done with my yurt. Now working on the border. Will add some other elements as well before it's all done.
Quick update - here is a WIP for the great big doll house project I'm working on. What you're looking at is one of the sides. It is a large window and on top a bit of an architectural onion dome of sorts. Long way to go and have tweaked the elements here and there but so far I think it looks quite nice. Will post updates as I get subsequent sections done. Hope you enjoy!
And one last Christmas ornament. All my own designs and as you can see very tiny scale. Wishing everyone a Very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!! Love, Kim
And here is the final ornament on the tree. Last pic with my hand gives you a sense of the scale.
So here we have what was initially going to be a multi part Christmas star but the thought of doing 14 copies each of 4 designs...well I got kind of bored with the idea so I just turned it into a polyhedral Christmas ornament. You can see how I put it together. One triangle at a time, mount on cardstock (you could also use poster board) keep those flaps on the sides fairly large so when you tuck them inside and glue them together you have plenty of room for error. Yes you could measure perfect angles, but winging works just fine too because in the end everything is tucked inside anyway.
Ok folks here come the Christmas reveals of works in progress. On the left is the start of what will be a very large Gingerbread House/Dollhouse which will probably take about 2 years to complete. Next to it is a period piece depicting a Central Asian Yurt. The bar to the left of it will be the frame for the finished piece. Should take about 6 mo.-1 year to complete.
So I started dating a fabulous American guy about 6 months ago and this week is his birthday. Had no idea what to get him so I made him this box. He has a tattoo with an eagle and stars on his arm so I designed the top with that in mind and found some fabulous American Flag ribbon at Hobby Lobby for the bottom trim. The box is from Joann. I lined the inside with blue felt as well. So what do you think folks? I'm a nervous wreck whether he will like, but made it with all my heart so hope he will. He has no idea I've made him something.
