"do you find this darkness comforting? the lounge, i mean. there was this guy, he used to come here every night until closing time. two divorces - going on three," the half-smile on her face is not condescending, it's just the kind of smile of someone recalling a fond memory. the bittersweetness of melancholy hitting closer, "he used to say he'd spent so much of his life in places like this, that they felt like home to him," jessica chuckles, crosses one stocking-clad leg over the other. she observes him with attention, studies the man from the sharpness of his jawline to the hollywood-like beauty of his features.
he doesn't reply, so she continues, "i used to wonder about those words quite a bit a couple of years ago. but i haven't seen him in a while, perhaps he moved states again," or perhaps, he finally succumbed to his own vices, "i still kind of think about it...maybe i've grown to feel that comfort myself. you can be whoever you want inside this place, and when the lights go on, and the music stops, you just go back to the real world." @embrosyn
" oh, i mustn't bore you with the details. " the sigh galinda exhales is long-winded — so-much-so — and frankly overdrawn. if there were a chaise to drape herself over nearby, she wouldn't done it in an instant. unfortunately, the furniture in the room provides less than ideal. " really, i'll just stay in my solitude and braverism. the last thing i would ever want to be is a burden. "

" come near me with a single posset and i shall revoke your invitation at once, " she said dryly, holding out a hand for him to kiss. her aunt's drawing room was already full and buzzing with conversation, most of which caroline could claim little interest in. at least the new arrival might bring some variation to the increasingly predictable talk of gowns, hounds, and horses. she enjoyed all three, there was no denying, but it had been more than an hour since anyone had offered anything new. she tilted her head to the side, a wry smile on her lips. " i hope you do not find us too dreadfully dull. perhaps with any luck, one of us shall develop some nasty infection and you shall have something sensible to entertain you, mr. apothecary... "

* one liner call. accepting
" never fear, doctor - i'm sure our rainy, inhospitable climate will guarantee you plenty of patients to entertain you during your stay! " she smiles a knowing, feline smile at him, disinclined to take either the man or his profession especially seriously. she leans back, settling in amongst the fragrant flowers of her uncle's garden. dark clouds are already gathering on the horizon, threatening to prove her predictions true. " in fact, i'll wager those american diseases have nothing on a good english fever. "

BUSY DRINKS DIRTY GIN MARTINIS ALONE AT HOTEL BARS. Busy travels to pick up custom designer garments for her little sister; Busy travels to meet with studio executives and producers and Kitsey's ass-kissers. Busy rarely travels for pleasure, anymore. It's a privilege to know leisure at all, but it feels devastating to her that she's lost it.
One other guest joins her at the bar, on this particular evening. And Busy's convinces herself that he's staring.
She sips her martini.
"If you're going to stare," she finally says, staring straight ahead at the liquor display shelf. Whiskeys, vodkas, the overpriced gin in her own glass — what have you.
"Try being civilized, and say hello, too."
" good heavens! another physician. how many can one county possibly boast? " she says with her usual dismissive tone as she eyes the newcomer. " surely at this rate there is no one left to tend the rest of england... " she is doomed, it seems, to be plagued by good-looking men with a penchant for lancing boils and mixing tinctures. how thoroughly irritating indeed... still, she cannot help the mischief that flashes in her eye as she takes another sip of her wine. if this doctor is as stiff-necked as others of her acquaintance, she knows she has found her source of amusement for the evening... " your profession's obsession with us might suggest there is something naturally poor in the cornish constitution. if so, surely we cannot be worth your time and effort, sir... " she adds, one brow raising in challenge. " it would be best to leave us to our sorry fate, would it not? "
