I just saw a long-time ex-friend’s post announcing their engagement. My first reaction was, "Oh, good for them!" They had a traumatic past relationship, and I’m really glad they found the right person. But for some reason, I also felt like a heartstring was plucked out of my chest.

Don’t worry! I’m happy for them though! However, it saddened me a bit because I felt like I’m no longer part of her life/adventure, which is totally okay! I think it’s best we part ways. Sometimes, we don’t realize how toxic we are to a certain person until they cut us out of their lives.

Although I miss them, I can’t really put myself back in their life anymore. I may not have been the best friend for them. My role in their life may have been a bit short-lived, I’m really glad we met each other and they exposed me to the life that I have now. I am forever grateful for them. I guess some people are introduced into our lives to make them better, but that doesn’t mean they’ll stay.

Thank you for the 12 years of friendship. 💚
