Saw your tags regarding avoiding Animorphs because of what you've heard about the ending. The final fates of the cast are technically left ambiguous and I think the overall themes of the ending are hopeful rather than bleak. It's less "the cycle of violence continues" and more "the work to protect the good in the universe is never done" imo (which remains quite relevant). If you're not sure, maybe read the last book first and decide from there whether the ending is too dark for you?

Hmmmmmm that does sound a bit better. And the anon who sent the first ask DID say there's an active fanfic scene, too, which helps with vague/unsatisfactory endings anyway...

The thing about Jon making himself feel worse and torturing himself by relistening to his assistants or Gertrude saying things are irreversible is that's depressing enough on it's own, but this is also in the context that the Eye is making the Changed world feel good to him. He's not just feeling the guilt but also mixing it and twisting it into what the Eye is giving him. Whether that counters the Eye's "it feels right" or the two emotions just become one terrible feeling soup, it's painful.

Does anyone have that “0 days without feeling sad about Jonathan Sims” image handy? I can’t find it anywhere and I need it for asks like these.

Zac!!! He's a half-elf, in his mid-30s, an aroace short king, severely sleep deprived. He chainsmokes when he's stressed and he is always stressed. He used to work for the government but Salita's wet pathetic-ness convinced him to work with Salita against the government instead. He's the motherfigure, he bakes to calm down.

He hasn't slept in 4 days but berates Salita for taking one all-nighter. Who needs magic when you're good at accounting.

Here's something I always wondered. If Cassie ever tried to use the caterpillar morph again, would she become the caterpillar or the butterfly? Or would she be able to choose which one? (If it's the caterpillar I could actually see that being useful for any death/nothlit-faking that might be necessary). What do you think?

It’s an interesting question that (if you’re asking for fic-plotting purposes) could probably be answered either way.  The only other time we see a morph fundamentally change the nature of the demorph while in use is when Rachel’s cut in half as a starfish and then demorphs as two different Rachels, and in that case as well we don’t see her ever use the morph again.

Honestly it seems that the butterfly morph (caterpillar morph? Oh god, is it a chrysalis morph?) doesn’t get used again because it just doesn’t have combat applications.  Butterflies are extremely visible and extremely delicate, and their primary defense (being toxic) isn’t likely to work on an opponent the size of a taxxon.  Roaches, houseflies, termites, and fleas are all less visible and hardier than butterysapillars — in whichever Pokémon form they might be — so I just don’t see Cassie having a future use for that morph.

Unless she wants to pollinate her own garden.  I guess there’s that.

Try a different set of Mons in Digimon? There are a lot of seasons that have different continuities so if you don't like one you may like another.

It’s sort of odd how Martin doesn’t face his domain until he’s ready to from his previous experiences. Story-wise it’s great. I love the episode and it fits with how seasons 4-5 are about Martin’s character journey (like how 1-4 are for Jon, and season 5 might have been for Basira had a plague not interfered to keep her off-mic). But it feels almost out of place with the idea that “no one gets what they deserve, they only get what hurts the most.”

I get that his own domain isn’t supposed to hurt him, but it just seems like it’s not the Fears usual MO that the domain doesn’t appear to him until he’s reached the right point in his own journey to accept it.

The fearpocalypse even makes Jon miserable, but Martin has walked out of two Lonely domains with more resolve than he went in with.

It makes me wonder how much of what allows this is the Eye being “fond of” Martin (through Jon). That could imply that Jon had more influence over things than he thought but was never able to use it because of what he Knew is role gave him. Alternatively, it’s influenced by something a little Webbier to guide Martin along the path that sets up his endgame choices.
