It was so lovely to see how many people were interested in my Internship placement me at WGSN. - Thank you all for following this blog!
I thought I would give a little update as to what I have been up to since creating the WGSN Internship Tumblr.
Since the placement I went on to continue my Fashion Communication course at UWE in Bristol and have since graduated in July 2014. In August 2014 I had the opportunity to work with some inspiring people at the Dazed Group, joining the Digital Marketing team to assist on some great projects across the board of Dazed & Confused, AnOther Magazine and Another Man magazine. During my time at Dazed I was able to discover a true interest in Digital Marketing. I was asked to extend my placement at Dazed, interning in total for 2 months.
Recently, I completed a short internship at the London Ralph Lauren Showrooms, gaining valuable insight into the luxury buying and wholesale trade. I felt the need to expand my knowledge of working with product and high-end negotiation. Ralph Lauren enhanced my ability to work professionally with buyers and the showroom teams, learning the processes of high-end market presentation.
After completing a range of different industry placements, I was able to obtain valuable skills in a range of departments which has consequently secured my new job tittle as the new Digital Marketing Assistant at ShortList Media. - I can not wait to see what is to come next during the next coming months!
ShortList Media is the home of Stylist magazine, ShortList magazine Stylist.co.uk, Shortlist.com and they also publish two daily newsletter email titles; Emerald Street and Mr Hyde.
Justifying unaffordable.
I love beautiful things. They steal my heart, take my breath away and are never easily forgotten.
There are in fact many things I simply cannot erase from my memory or believe that I let them slip away without purchasing. As impractical as they were... are... the red leather arm chair from the flea market in Brighton, the amethyst rock on the long gold chain from a fancy department store, the black leather boots in the boutique shop. All varying in price but all "unaffordable" when they came into my life.
Yesterday afternoon a mail popped in to my inbox. I subscribe to 'Emerald Street', I am not quite sure how or why, but every now and again they are a a treat. Yesterday by example - with the title "What to underwear" and an offer to buy a bra + 2 matching knickers from Myla for £95 when they normally retail for £200. Celebrating 15 years of luxury lingerie. And. They. Were. Beautiful.
Lets be honest - the photo was probably edited, they're probably impractical and will they actually be comfortable?? But I'd seen them. And I couldn't forget about them. On my way home, eating dinner, getting ready for bed, checking my emails in the morning - they kept slipping into my mind.
I brought them up at lunch - joking about the underwear I'd got as far as putting into my online basket... but of course I would never spend that much on underwear... especially for no reason. Who would?
But I did. Before I knew it, the afternoon had slipped by and they still were on my mind. Next minute I was in the bathroom - slipping my dress over my shoulders so my friend (the wonderful person she is) could check my bra size (embarrassingly I can never remember). Muttering the entire time... "It's my birthday coming up ya know, it's half the normal amount, oh but they're just so pretty"... entering the card details... clicking "buy".
Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god, oh my god I can't believe I did it.
I just spent £100 on some bits of lace and yet still stand in the supermarket working out which packet of dry pasta is the most economical per 100g when it is a difference of cents.
But they're beautiful and irrelevant of whether no one else ever sees them... regardless of the price tag... nothing quite beats those days when you know what your wearing under your dress - luxury lingerie.
Thanks www.emeraldstreet.com for our first feature!
Our calloused fingers, blood red on the brick but we hold on.
We'll never falter, though they want us to slip. We hold on.
Oh hey two months with my Boyf today. You r gr8 X
