“...But he saw that while deceiving others he had been deceived, and mistaken them for the empty creatures he wanted them to think he was. No, they too had insides.” : Earlier in the summer, I read Alan Hollinghurst “The Sparsholt Affair” and didn’t realize how much that book (which I loved) had in common, with this book. I mean one major difference from Hollinghurst is that I finished this book in one day. : Anyway, how could any sane, feeling person not be enthralled with this book? HOW, GIRL, HOW!? The first two chapters are a little slow going through Maurice Hall’s early childhood but it rounds out the rest of the story. I read the rest of the book breathlessly. I don’t think Forster wastes a single word here (a feat in a story of any size). : I think this kind of story is important because it’s a historical queer love (written in 1913-1914) that proves that not only are queer people here NOW but they’ve always been here. : Side note: this is one of those books that the publication of is just as famous as the book itself. I was only aware of some of the major details about this story BUT.YOU.GUYS. I swooned as hard for the pub details as the story itself. So, I included a podcast to check out after reading from the @bbcarts if you get podcasts on @spotify : Happy reading, y’all! 📖 : #maurice #emforster #emforsterquote #meindoors #academiaaesthetic #academia #darkacademia #classicliterature #literary #literarycommunity #bookstagram #lightacademia #readersofinstagram #writersofinstagram #🥀 #blackwritersofinstagram #teachergoth #weirdblackgirl #protectweirdblackgirlsatallcost #deadauthors #romanticacademia #arthoe #biblophile #quarantinereads #quarantinesaturday https://www.instagram.com/p/CFGhuMwl5KL/?igshid=1uz3kqnnc8vbj
