i could get into the power dynamics, or the enemies to lovers thing, or the long history full of potential conflict, or their very "same but opposite" energies on many levels (all of which mostly comes down to individual taste) but i also recently realized that in 2020, geralt/emhyr has the additional appeal of "imagine if your government was run by a guy who's actually competent and smart and cares about both his subjects as well as you and your family, specifically"
Yeah, as is... perhaps obvious from the Emhyr/Geralt fics I’ve posted so far, I am also super into “Emhyr is Geralt’s super rich and powerful boyfriend who will give him anything material or political, including for instance passing on his empire to their much more ethical and progressive daughter.”
Emhyr is also, for all his ruthlessness, the kind of person who you can pretzel-twist into being really generous and treating people really well as sheer enlightned self-interest. Loyal, happy subjects are a better tax base, and so on. He’s ruthless and perhaps cruel, but he’s not mean or sadistic. He’s pursuing goals.
It’s kind of what I assume Smallville fandom was doing with the Clark/Lex pairing a lot of the time and oh no I did not mean to draw that parallel it works way too well god dammit Henry Cavill
