Clear Soul Forces - Forceswithyou ALBUM REVIEW
In Clear Soul Forces, the chemistry between Noveliss, Ilajide, L.A.Z. and Emile Vincent is undeniable. Last year, they dropped their 4th studio album, Still after a long period of them all venturing into their solo careers. Still was their most versatile album to date and showed that CSF are stronger together than they are apart. With the announcement of their latest album Forceswithyou, the Detroit hip hop group also expressed that this album will be their last. I understand this decision as being in a group can be difficult and they have been putting out music for a while and they’ve put out a lot of it. This decision does disappoint me not only because these guys make such great music and rap so well together but Still showed that they can do more than just one style of hip hop and I was hoping that it would take their careers further. They were rapping over beats that they had never rapped over before and making some of the best music to date so it does seem odd to just put out one more album and call it quits. I don’t think their solo output is slowing down anytime soon as Noveliss tends to put out 1-2 projects every year. I think Forceswithyou is a great way for Clear Soul Forces to end because it’s really them just giving them their fans what they love. Forceswithyou gives fans the bars with plenty of video game references as they trade bars and energy off of each other over their signature sound of Detroit hip hop that we’ve known and love from them. This album is just CSF doing what they do best: rapping. I’m curious if Ilajide is handling the production on this album like he normally does because it’s definitely his sound and I remember saying in my Still review that I didn’t care for Fab 5ive that much because Ilajide’s production is made for them and Nameless’s beats didn’t totally do it for me on that album. As much as I loved Still for being different from their previous great albums like Detroit Revolution(s) and Gold PP7s, I’m fine with Forceswithyou having more of the same style that I’m used to them making because this is what I love them for and this is the right way to end their catalog. The style of production and the way the songs are structured aren’t too different from what I am used to them doing but I really love how their hooks have improved with every album. I noticed this on standouts like Nine 5ive and SS2. SS2 is the sequel to Suspect Spitterzzz which was featured on Noveliss’s solo album, Cerebral Apex. I was surprised and happy to see that they made an SS2 but I was also surprised that Nolan The Ninja wasn’t on the song. He was on the first Suspect Spitterzzz and CSF have featured on his albums before. Forceswithyou is a short listen and it’s a great way to end the Clear Soul Forces discography because it gives the fans everything that they’ve come to love from them and it’s what we love them for. Even though they said it was their last album, I hope it doesn’t end up being the case.
