"Should I even go out today?" She wonders aloud, staring down at the numbers on her wrist, slowly ticking away, counting the minutes to meeting her soulmate.
"What if these numbers are wrong? What if I look up and there’s no one? What then?" She can’t help wondering and being nervous, terrified that despite the numbers that this supposed soulmate could be nothing more than a mere thought. She had tried to ignore them once, but it ended in disaster.
Nervously, she goes about applying the makeup, afraid of scaring them off at first glance with her strange appearance. After a silent debate, she decides to wear her normal clothes, not wanting to be overdressed.
She wanders the halls, rubbing at her wrist, afraid to look at the numbers and see.
00:00:05
She wanders past the portal room, but stops when she sees the door ajar. “I don’t remember leaving that open…”
00:00:04
She glances around to be sure Alice and the twins aren’t in the hall before she gingerly pushes open the door.
00:00:03
Her gaze falls over an empty room, save for the glowing portals, the countdown on her wrist far from her mind.
00:00:2
A new portal in a brilliant green glows among the others, one she’s never seen before, piquing her interest.
00:00:01
As she steps close, almost touching it, she steps on her shoelace, tumbling through with an ungraceful cry.
00:00:00
The numbers glare out from her wrist, but she remains oblivious as she stares up at a striking silver automaton with bright green optics.
"I, um…. sorry about that." She manages to stammer out nervously.
He chuckles quietly, shaking his head and helping her up with a smile. "It's perfectly fine, people stumble in through these things all the time." He stood up again, hands on his hips, eyes narrowed slightly at the portal behind her. "Of course, this one's new. That's odd."
He had stopped checking the numbers on his wrist years ago. They had been maxed out the last time he checked, at least, and he just stopped bothering himself over them.
