Improv team art is my jam. This piece was commissioned by my dear, funny friend Joe (far right).We were on an improv team together called Scoundrels. Scoundrels was a damn fine team. Damn fine. I’m hoping for a reunion show.

On the first official date I had with Kent, the man who I would end up marrying, we discussed that we were both interested in having children. I told him that I liked the name Dot for a girl. He talked about the pointillism genre painting as being mistakenly founded, as according to Seurat, he was not painting points (dots), but lines. On the other hand, Kent was an admirer of Dorothy Parker (in whose honor one could name a child Dot). He began to talk about Dorothy Parker's style of humor and writing, and it occurred to me that one could describe Ring Larder, who I loved, in a similar way. Kent reached for a compilation of Dorothy Parker stories on his bookshelf, and upon reading the back cover, I saw that the editor made the same comparison to Ring Lardner. I was stunned. Our relationship quickly escalated and Kent and I were certain that we had been placed together by God. When my son's due date ended up being Dorothy Parker's birthday, I knew that God was winking at us, and I was tickled to be reminded that God knows all across time, and that that delightful early conversation between Kent and me would serve as a humorous reminder of God's presence in our lives so many years later. Emily Dickinson

When I was 19 I went to visit Emily Dickinson’s house. I had been swooning over her work for years. I fell in love with her powerful brevity and her quiet life of solitude. Like many American girls before me, I felt a kindred spirit. I also liked to be alone and write my heart out in tiny verses. I also collected flowers and pressed them between pages. Needless to say, being in her house and walking into her little upstairs room was quite the event. Through time and space, I felt her there. Creating. You could sense the magic still hanging about the room. Echoing on forever. When I left, I felt as if I knew her better. I felt as if I knew her. 

I read Emily like some folks read the Bible. When I need guidance. When I want to hear Truth. When there is full moon at midnight and I’m surrounded by candles... I read and at the end, I find myself in quiet, contemplative peace.

Emily Dickinson will always be a teacher of mine and a first love.

Hello Lovers!

I'm sorry I don't have a fabulous photo shoot to show you today, however, I have a MONSTER photo shoot scheduled for this weekend and in the coming weeks Coco is about to get bigger and better than ever.  We have lots of fun new models coming on to the blog.  I don't want to ruin the surprise but in the next few weeks you can also look forward to a cool new look for Pop Goes Queens.  For today, I'd LOVE to recommend some other fantastic blogs/sites for you to peruse.  I'm completely OBSESSED with all of these people, and they're all a big influence on my style, humor, and they inspire me on the daily.

TFDiaries by Megan Zietz- I am totally obsessed with this girl's "frugalista" style.  She consistently styles cool outfits in new and interesting ways and she's one of the fashion bloggers out there that you can almost always count on to get it so so right.

Girl With Curves- Such an inspiring blogger.  She constantly manages to be feminine and cutting edge and always looks like a million bucks no matter the price tag.

berBice [MRKT]- This pop culture site by Cacy Forgenie is so full of undiscovered treasures that everybody will be talking about in a few weeks, but show up first here.

Deskwarming- This hilarious web comic by my friend Jesse Iacovetto is a constant source of amusement and giggles.

Happy Now?- This quest of aspiring food blogger Rebecca Vigil is the place to read about and watch Rebecca's adventures in fulfilling her dreams, from her hilarious cooking show videos to her soul-tickling restaurant reviews, not to mention a healthy dose of random nail art, running stories and dreamy crooning.
