“The Phasmatodea Series is inspired from the union of flora and anthropoda though the exploration of stick insects. As an insect that has evolved to mimic the plants which they feed upon, Phasmatodea illustrate the relationship between plants and inspects. Much of this work focusses on the movement and camouflage of their wings, inspiring my pieces with their interchangeability. When they fail to blend into their surroundings, stick insects will open their fan-like wings as an attempt for distraction. Pieces in my Phasmatodea series exemplify the motion of this surprise reveal. The photo-polymer sleeves serve as a means to camouflage the hidden vellum winged beauty of the piece, only to be dramatically released when the sleeve is removed.”
