Last Saturday night Jess and I drove up to Toowoomba to get posters printed for my exhibition, Pitpass. We met up with Em and spent a few hours that night cleaning and setting fresh (pink!) emulsion to her screens and let them dry overnight. Sunday, we returned to the studio (after the markets and Em’s famous omelette) to get them printed. This studio is where the girls studied together, and it was beautiful seeing snippets of their work there - a drawer filled with clippings of zines and risographs they’ve created. The girls burnt my design into the emulsion and I watched intently as the letters gradually came into sight and peeled away when we sprayed the light-sensitive emulsion with water. They then used their expertise and lined the design up with my paper and printed each, one by one, until all 120 were complete.
These two special souls are as individual and special as the posters they’ve made and I can’t thank them enough for making this possible.
You can see some of their other work together as Velvet Milk on their Tumblr.
