(Little late to prompt, sorry) Whichever pairing you want and “I dreamt about you last night.”
Tommy opens the door of the Favreau house as quietly as he can. He’s been stopping by on his morning runs to take Leo with him, because despite the free access to the backyard, the dog has been getting restless while his parents are otherwise occupied. As Tommy toes off his shoes and pads down the hallway he hears a low murmur from the kitchen. It’s barely five a.m, it must have been another bad night.
“…yes, yes, I know, I know, I’m working on it.” Tommy feels like he can see Favs long before he enters the kitchen, moving around the room more rhythmically than he’d ever managed on a dance floor, whispering nonsense to his four-week-old daughter. “I know, I know, the bottle’s almost ready, shhh, shhh shhh.”
Tommy pauses in the kitchen entryway. Jon doesn’t even look up at him, tunnel visioned by the lack of sleep.
“I dreamt about you last night.” Jon’s singsonging softly. “Before you woke me up that is. I dreamt about you and you weren’t crying, if you can believe that.” There’s a small squawk from his arms and he shifts the rhythm of his bouncing circle.
“We were outside in the backyard and you were playing in the pool with your cousin. You’re gonna get to meet her so soon, and you’re going to be such good friends.” Tommy’s heart leaps with the familiar twist of joy and panic at his own imminent fatherhood. “But in my dream, you two were playing in the pool and the dogs kept jumping in and splashing you and oh how you giggled. Your mom was half asleep in the sun next to me. Uncle Tommy and Auntie Hanna and Uncle Lovett were laughing. You came flying out of the water and ran up to me and smiled your sweet little smile…”
The timer on the counter buzzes and Favs breaks off to grab the bottle from the bottle warmer. He tests it like the expert he’s quickly become and slips it into his daughter’s mouth without ever ceasing to move. “That smile is going to be my weakness for the rest of my life, huh sweetie? My dream self wanted to freeze that moment forever. I couldn’t believe how lucky I was.”
Jon looks up and meets Tommy’s eyes across the room. “I can’t believe how lucky I am right now.” He adds with a tired smile. “Hey creeper.”
“Hey.” Tommy walks across the room. “Let me cuddle my niece for a while, you go get some sleep.”
“But your run…” Jon protests halfheartedly, already handing over baby and bottle.
“I think Leo and I can both wait a bit, go to bed.” Tommy responds, starting a slow bouncing circle of the kitchen. “You can owe me in two months.”
Favs grins and clasps his shoulder as he escapes the room. Tommy finds himself smiling after him, more delighted about his own future sleepless nights then he would have thought possible. The baby stirs in his arms and he realizes he’s stopped moving. “Hey sweetie, hey. I hope you know how much your daddy loves you. So many people love you. Shhh, shhh, shhh.”
so maybe at one point emily and jon have the talk about exceptions. they’re gonna be faithful to each other, of course they are, but there’s gotta be that one person they’re allowed to break their vows for, someone they’d never really have a chance with, but who they get to hook up with if hell freezes over and the opportunity is there.
“taylor,” says emily immediately. she’d never say it out loud, but she’s looked carefully at taylor and karlie together and privately she thinks maybe she could be taylor’s type. realistically she’ll never even get to meet her, but just in case, she wants jon to pre-approve.
jon’s eyes light up. “obviously. no problem. go for it!”
she expects him to answer immediately. it’s not like anyone could miss how worshipfully jon’s eyes follow the president whenever they’re in the same room. still, jon takes a moment to think about it.
“it’s okay, jon,” says emily, when she’s tired of waiting. “i already know how you feel about obama.”
“oh,” says jon. “right, haha.”
emily leans in for a kiss. “honestly though babe? i think my exception’s way more of a sure thing.”
when jon considers this conversation later, he barely remembers how in that moment of hesitation, for a split second he thought of someone else. it’s just weird how minds work, that’s all. anyway, emily and taylor would be crazy hot together. he thinks about that instead.
