“Mommy, please don’t be mad-”

She stops pacing for a moment to scan her seven year old over for the twentieth time since they arrived. He looks so small sitting there, dangling his legs on the exam table as the doctor wraps his little arm in a blue cast. He tilts his face up in a poor attempt to see the bandage covering the stitches on his chin.

“Kid,” she steps closer to rest a hand on his knee, “I was mad when you snuck a whole box of Oreos to your room past your bed time. I was mad when you tried to hide a squirrel in the house and it trashed the kitchen.”

His voice is small, “So you’re angry now.”

“No, I’m not. Not at all.” He looks up at her, confused. “You scared me today, Henry. I’m scared.”

“Oh,” is all he can say. He squeezes her hand with his good one. “I didn’t mean to scare you, Mommy. I’m sorry.” 

“I know, kid.” She plants a kiss in his hair. “Maybe you should listen to me next time I tell you not to climb trees that high.”

“So you are a little mad huh.”

“Maybe a little bit.”

She nudges him halfheartedly and he lays his head on her shoulder as the doctor finishes up. “Falling out of it wasn’t my fault though.”

“Oh?”

“Yep. I think it was the tree that tried to eat Ron and Harry.”

Emma actually laughs at that. “Right.”

Is there a book/fictional character that has honestly changed your life?: regina hands down. i don't want to get into too much detail, but when i wrote to lana almost two years ago, i told her about me and my mom's relationship when she was still alive, and how it reminded me of regina and henry's. their growth together means a lot to me because i see a lot of their traits in my own relationship with my mom (her name was also regina which is insane). aside from that regina has taught me so much from having strength, the ability to overcome obstacles, and fight for what you love!
