Emma Weber
Painting, a window. Painting, a portal.
I am interested in the intersection between the visible and invisible. How do I represent what I cannot see? How do I begin to see?
In my work I manipulate familiar spaces, bodies, and objects to create access points to the unknown.
Lately, I have been forcing myself to slow down my painting process. I like to observe the way thin translucent washes of paint build up and create atmosphere. What fragments do I preserve? What do I choose I paint over?
Some words:
interior / internal transformation mirrors, shadows, portals
a ghost!
pattern, illusion
hallucinatory realms
ambiguous bodies
human /animal ritual objects
walls that aren't really walls?
probably aliens
