Airón!

Finished my illustration of the Airón during the wedding fight :)

Lots of finnicky little things that I wish were better but alas, as I have said before, I am trained to illustrate as a designer, not as an illustrator (if that makes any sense…) so my skills in certain areas are limited.

I had a really fun time thinking about the clothes and all the research that went into it. Looked at *lots* of Han dynasty paintings as well as some Tang and Ming dynasty clothes. Ultimately this piece is a complete Frankenstein of various dynasties and also costumes from c-dramas lol

Consort Airón WIP

Relistening to these books (have not read Dragon Blood Curse yet) and decided I needed to draw Airón during the fight scene at the wedding. This meant I needed to design the wedding clothes super quick though so you can see my little sketch in the corner to act as a guide for the big drawing. Have to fix some perspective things and so on so forth.

Unsure how I feel about the wolf’s claw design yet… was thinking about hunting tools and survivalist blades but i can’t tell if it feels too modern…

I missed that my first read, is the headdress gendered or based on position (Empress as opposed to Consort), I wonder

Another thing I love is these scenes we get throughout the books of even those not allied to our MCs being human and realistic rather than caricatures of evil, especially with the Imperium’s history of conscription

Wait. If she died when Tallu was ~13 and the twins were only born after the war was over. does that mean Tallu is over a decade older than Airón?? And it just never went mentioned at all??
