I just finished Mars by Fuyumi Souryo, and apparently it really is so that in order to the love story of the protagonists to be happier and sweetier, there need to be that one antagonist-foil who miserably fails in what the protagonist succeeds. Evil-dark-version, and also utterly tragic version of them.

this whole ai in fanfic thing is so fucking infuriating and SAD.

i do not condone it, and would never do it myself, but i at least understand why a student with a deadline or an employee who hates their job, would off-load their brain/labor to an ai bot to churn some bullshit out. but fic?? babes. no one is making you do this. you do not have a deadline. you are not getting paid. this is literally just because it's fun. for the love of the game. what in actual fresh fucking hell are we doing?

i know there are a lot of factors that go into this phenomenon, but i KNOW a big influence has got to be the "celebrity" worship of certain fic authors who hit it big in larger fandoms plus the disgusting consumptive culture that has grown around fanworks and fandom spaces in recent years. people want to be """"famous"""" or whatever os they sit in front of Claude or whatever and try to shurn out some bullshit that will make them feel validated or whatever. it's so gross and so sad. that this. is happening to fandom spaces now.
