Please tag as empowermint - spelled just like that so I'll see your answer. I currently in grad school studying marriage and family therapy. I should be finding practicum sites but my weight is holding me back. I am considered morbidly obese and I am recovering from BED. I haven't lost lbs yet- it's a goal. I'm scared to interview Internship sites and see clients bc I'm afraid they won't take me seriously. Iplan to talk to my therapist about it too but I'd like advice of how to handle this fear
hi empowermint,
I wonder if you are expecting the staff and clients at these practicum sites to be mostly or entirely thin. My experience working in clinical settings is that both the staff and the clients represent a wide range of body types and health statuses. I don’t know that population you plan to work with, but my speciality is serious mental illness, which as a population tends to have difficulties with weight due to medication side effects, chronic health issues, and frequent sedentary lifestyle. You may find that more people look like you than you expected. Good luck!
