“it’s nothing,” she says, almost reflexively. a charming smile takes over her face, swinging her arms back and forth before holding one back. “trick of the light, y’know?” she tugs down her bracelet, hoping to cover it up.
even still, she turns away from chloe, instead opting to look over one of the posters they hung up at their hideout. her eyes flit easily over to the graffiti;chloe was here, rachel was here. “after all, the lighting here is bad. you can’t take any good photos.”
“anyways, just don’t worry about it– if it even exists,” she adds on, a little too quickly. even she has to wince a little at that.

"Nothing. Right." Chloe couldn't count how many times she'd made that excuse herself. She watched how quick Rachel tried to cover up any evidence that the bruise existed. It wasn't going to work - especially not with someone as overprotective as Chloe. She knew what she saw. She put the camera down no longer in the mood to take pictures.
Chloe stood back giving Rachel space and allowing her to continue lying to her as she thought about how to handle the situation. After a few minutes, she walked up behind her and put her arms around the other girls smaller body to pull her back against her. For a few minutes, she just held her in silence. She lowered her head and kissed Rachel’s shoulder.
"It's not a trick of the light. And it's definitely not nothing." One arm remained around Rachel's waist holding her close and the other reached down for the bruised wrist and pushed the bracelet away. She let fingertip gently brush over the purple area marring Rachel's perfect pale skin. "Who hurt you, Rach? Are there more? Talk to me. Please."
“We don’t have secrets. Not from each other. We tell each other everything.” Okay, that wasn't entirely true. She hadn't told Rachel how David hit her sometimes. In her defense it had never been a topic of conversation - if it were she would have swallowed her pride and told her friend everything. But since it wasn't she kept it to herself.
