It’s as fortunate as it is telling that Empty Flowers didn’t look to Kickstarter to fund their new remix album, The Air You Found.

New - Empty Flowers - Quit
I'm not sure how Empty Flowers escaped my notice before now. Their previous record, a debut named Six got significant love from some of the major music blogs. I usually don't read those, but when a band cut from this particular cloth makes waves, usually they'll inevitably find themselves on my radar. It doesn't really matter. What's important now is that their follow-up, amusingly titled Five (because the last one was Six, you see) has taken the classic post-hardcore sound explored in their debut, and honed it to be more melodic and memorable. At different points of the record, the Philadelphia quartet conjures a variety of bands from all the corners of the genre, the timeline, and the country. Rites of Spring, Quicksand, No Knife and Unwound are just a few of the names that emit from the crushing rhythms, intricate guitars and passionate vocals along the 8 song sophomore effort. Encountering a record like this always feels like coming home to me amongst the sea of modern twee indie folk snoozers. I know some of you readers are in my boat here, let me toss you a life raft. - MO
