How to Find Lestrade - Sherlock Season 3 Episode 1
In case you just want to watch the bits of Sherlock that have Lestrade in them… timings are taken from my Blu-ray player. Previous episodes can be found here:

Season 3 Episode 1, “The Empty Hearse”
An excellent Greg Lestrade episode, with several key moments for the character.
3:26 - 4:25 Following up “Many Happy Returns”, short-haired Greg is listening to a bearded Anderson's theory of Sherlock's survival as they get coffee at an outside kiosk. He advises him to "Let it go! Sherlock's dead," before accusing Anderson of operating out of guilt. (Lestrade's first word of this episode? "Bollocks!" to Anderson.)
4:47 - 5:09 Lestrade and Anderson watch TV crews reporting on how Sherlock's name had been cleared and toast (with paper coffee cups) "Absent friends... Sherlock. May God rest his soul." (A particularly puppy-eyed look from Rupert Graves here.)
28:34 - 29:28 The hug in the parking garage, as Lestrade's smoke break is interrupted by Sherlock's return. "Ooh, you bastard." Greg in a nutshell.
42:18 - 43:34, 43:50 - 45:48 Greg leads Sherlock and Molly down into a crime scene, with the suit-dressed skeleton and a dusty book labeled "How I Did It by Jack the Ripper”. Molly and Lestrade are both concerned to see Sherlock talking to himself since John is "not really in the picture any more," according to Sherlock.
1:20:02 - 1:20:04 During Sherlock's conversation with Anderson, in a flashback to the scene last season where the rescued kidnapped girl screams at Sherlock, we very briefly see Greg and hear him say "Get out!"
1:25:21 - 1:26:24 Sherlock's return celebration at Baker Street. As Sherlock and John prepare to meet the press, Mary and Mrs. Hudson discuss wedding plans and Greg toasts the couple. Then Molly arrives and introduces Tom.
Desperate
you know guys how great this would've been if like instead of saying - being sherlock holmes , or like after saying this, john would have said - you love it, the thrill of chase, the blood pumping through your veins, just the two of us back against the rest of the world in his soft very soft voice, and sherlock just losing it and pushing john into the wall and kissing the shit out of him like oh gods that would be so amazing wow
When Does Sherlock Ask for Help?
More thoughts on rewatching The Empty Hearse.
Sherlock doesn’t ask for help when he thinks John’s life is in danger. He rushes ahead, no time to even ask Mary to text Lestrade.
Sherlock stops John from calling the police when they head off to find the bomb. It turns out that Sherlock has already contacted them, though. Perhaps because his brother was involved?
Sherlock does text Lestrade in a panic asking for help when he has to write a best man speech (next episode).
Does Sherlock think only he can or should rescue John?
(PS Lord Moran is handsome. Shame we didn’t see more of him. Weirdly, the part is uncredited, so I don’t know the actor’s name.)

For Tumblr Doctor Who fandom's Steven Moffat Appreciation Days, for my final, bedtime post each day, I'm going to try to pick the cartoons I've drawn tangential to Mr. Moffat's scripts or showrunning that I think he might be most amused by. Today's Appreciation Day theme is Other Works [than Doctor Who]. (I think maybe, of all the cartoons I've rerun this week, this may be the one Steven Moffat would like best.)
