Total disregard for human life is all that can truly be read between the lines here. Four grey walls stare back at Chris and make the fact that his sight is failing a minor casualty because even if he could see there is simply nothing to see. It renders their use pointless.
He can feel his joints pop under his ever increasing weight as he stands.
There are no restraints today. He’s been on his best behavior.
The door, adorned with a small window, is his destination and his size allows him swift travel inside the tiny cell. At least here, through this tiny pane of glass, what sight is left has something to bear witness to. There are men walking about the hall. Some disfigured, other’s look shaken; and then there are the guards of course with their little toy guns.
But what really has his attention is the orderly approaching. Chris can’t make out his face from the distance, but the way he holds himself and his smaller-than-average size give him away.
Alfons. Chris’ caretaker. The only warmth this place has to offer.
