red room update!!

it's been a hot minute since i've given an update on trr, but rest assured that i'm still working on it! i am planning/writing the second installment and doing some heavy edits on the first, and i want to finish the edits up before i post anything new. that being said, i'm working on a couple of one-shots that i might post before the new series starts, so definitely keep an eye out for those!

the point of this post is that i am going to start a tag list! there are a couple of people that have already reached out to me to ask about one, and i haven't done it in the past, but since this series is so long i am going to start one for any future installments of the series. please reply to this, send a message, or send an ask if you want to be added!

Check on Each Other

My fellow first responders:

Check on each other.  Please.  Ask for a debrief after a rough call.  I’ve had many calls that we really should have debriefed.  I’ve only had one call where we did a full-blown critical incident stress debriefing.  I didn’t want to go.  I thought it would be weird to talk about my “feelings” in a room full of co-workers.  I went, because after that call I couldn’t focus.  I was angry at everything and everyone and I needed to talk about it.  The debrief helped so much more than I thought it would.  I remember walking out of that room feeling like a weight had been lifted off of my shoulders.  I am lucky enough to run with an agency that prioritizes it’s people.  I know some of you aren’t as lucky, but that doesn’t stop you from texting your partner after a shitty call.  It’s not hard.  Three words: “are you okay?”.  That’s all you need to say.  I don’t care if you aren’t close friends with your co-workers.  You might be the only person they have to talk to, because we all know it’s hard to talk about calls with people who aren’t “in the life”.  We have an obligation to make sure that anyone who needs help gets it.  Look out for the person next to you.  We all need to have each others backs.
