she doesn’t say a word to him, as she drives her car-- she is small but authoritative tucked behind that mini cooper-- with her... baby daddy in the front seat and her daughter-- the fussy sleeper when she had a fever, snoozing in the back seat. She’d never imagined she’d have a baby daddy-- she never imagined she wouldn’t have kade. Music plays softly in the background and she avoids his gaze.  “I’m sorry-- I shouldn’t have called. I just-- I hate doing these things by myself. And I know it’s nothing--and that she’ll be just fine but I freak out a little when she get’s sick you know--? She’s all I’ve got. Everything. I don’t really have anything else-- no one who loves me that way. Unconditional. Just constant love. It’s overwhelming sometimes. And I... yeah. I’m sure you had better things to do.”

Em was running too quickly to pay attention to where she was going. She had sort of kind of stolen a very nice watch off of some guy and gotten caught. And he’d been much faster than she’d anticipated. The one advantage she had going for her was that she knew this neighborhood like the back of her hand. She’d been turning down side streets and slowly putting distance between them but she wasn’t ready to stop yet. Until, of course, she rounded a corner and slammed into  someone, colliding in a mess of tangled limbs and swearing on her end. “Shit, fuck. Damn. I’m sorry. Are you okay? Fuck.”
