He blinked, trying to focus his gaze, clear the fog from his mind. He focused on August’s words, ridiculous as they were. “I don’t think you get to decide that,” he answered. He was going to die eventually. He was mortal, human. He couldn’t live forever. And since he was a hunter, he wouldn’t live long. He wasn’t sure he was going to live past today, actually. Hazards of the job and this is the worst he’d ever been hurt. “I’m getting old. And slow.”

"i'm sure i'll find a way to disappoint you," he deadpans. not even intentionally. it's not like he actively tries to fuck up all the time, but it does seem to be his area of expertise. "but... thanks. i'm... trying." it's not always easy, but he's found a support system that works for him and he's doing what he can to just be better and to help other people be better too, he supposes.

She started heading back the way she’d broken in, backing away. Even if their encounter was somewhat civil, Viv had been raised to never turn her back on someone, especially someone as dangerous as the other woman.
