Emulate and create. Cyanotype process in Adobe Photoshop.

Today’s imaging class we tried to emulate one of the old photographic techniques. I picked cyanotype process randomly. I thought it was pretty simple to recreate this in photoshop. To achieve a similar effect I worked on the multiple layers, adjusted colours and added some noise to my photograph.

I used a photograph of my classmate Innes, my before and after is above^^.

Someone brought to my attention that there’s a fanfic out there that sounds strikingly similar to “Stitching Hearts” and asked if I was upset by this. My answer to that is no. I’m flattered that someone would want to emulate something I’ve done. Besides, it’s just a fanfic. If “Stitching Hearts” were a published novel and someone else published a similar sounding story that they were then profiting off of in some way, I’d be more inclined to be upset. If anyone ever wants to write a variation of one of my stories, please feel free to do so (again, as long as you’re not profiting off of it, of course). I’m just glad to see other people writing and having fun. Besides, emulating stories you enjoy reading is part of how you learn to become a better writer.  You do you, boo.

This is the process that i follow to create a Victorian photo with Photoshop. First i opened the photo in Photoshop. Second , I decided what photo i wanted to use as well as the background (dagguerotype) that I wanted to blend to make my photo.

Then I opened the images in photoshop. Then i went to file, then place and then you take the background image and you place it so that it can be used as the background.

Once you have the daguerrotype background in place, you then need to put your photograph over that (if it is not the right size then you need to adjust that so they are the right size).

Then you click on normal and you choose the option multiply. This combines the two images.

Once you have then made the final adjustments you can save the images in the right size and format that you need.

The first photo was edited in PIhotoshop to create a vintage photo effect . This photo was inspired by Vctorian style photos. The second photo is the original photo. As you can see the original photo did not need many changes to look like a Victorian portrait, however we made some small changes with Photoshop to give it a regal touch.
