encantos themes pt. 1
encanto has a lot of hidden thematic elements, but one of my favorites is the symbolism of the house.
very obviously, the house cracks as the family cracks. but remember when mirabel couldn’t be saved by the house when she fell through the floor inside the walls? the inside of the walls are dark, broken, and crumbling. outside, the house is vibrant and still full of magic.
this is very good symbolism for the family. the inside of the family is slowly splintering and cracking with the weight of the pressure abuela puts on the family, just like the house. on the outside, the family is portrayed to the village as full of magic and one united team.
