I recently managed to pick up Marina Bychkova’s Enchanted Doll photo book for a good price and highly recommend it if you are a fan of her gorgeous porcelain dolls:
My beautiful resin Enchanted Doll is wondering where her shoes are:
And admiring one of her gorgeous porcelain sisters:
And of course also just being very beautiful all day:
Two of my Giselle dolls. Honestly I only picked up a second one so I could steal her flowers for my first one since both dolls were missing some. #enchanted #enchanteddoll #enchanteddisney #giselle :#giselledoll #disneydoll #disneydolls https://www.instagram.com/p/CHsBZ6JpLda/?igshid=o9nirqh3gi0s
On the degradation of resin eyes with the passage of time
When I took Tatsue out of my doll cupboard recently for a fresh profile pic, I was shocked to discover that his beautiful powder blue eyes, custom ordered from Enchanted Doll, have faded to a watery lemon yellow! D:
2018:
How they looked in 2007:
It was all the more shocking because:
I had custom ordered the eyes from the maker sometime in end 2006 or 2007 - so they were brand new when they came to me.
I played with the doll who wears them for less than 2 years before putting him into storage. As with all my dolls, he was carefully kept out of sunlight whilst I was playing with him.
When I put Tatsue into storage, the eyes were still blue and looked like new. For the last 8-9 years, they have been in a dark cupboard, completely untouched and out of the light.
They cost me about US$60.... whereas my (much older) $25 HG and Kanis Augen glass eyes are as pristine as the day I received them... D:
Besides the startling change in iris colour, the pupil of one eye looks like it has developed pale spots, and the surface of the white part of the same eye has crinkled slightly.
I used to be a glass eye “snob”, but I ventured into resin because I wanted the perfect eyes for Tatsue... Way back in 2006/ 2007, the only option was to custom order a pair from a resin eye maker. Now, I’m not sure I’ll ever buy resin eyes again, especially if they are expensive. :\
On to the task of finding him a new pair.... any suggestions would be gratefully received. And if you fancy yourself a $10 pair of pale lemon resin eyes, drop me a line. :o
I actually did a video!!! 😱 Are you amazed? It's been forever lol. Anyway, this one is a longer timelapse, it's available on my Patreon atm but will hit youtube soon! #bjd #bjds #faceup #balljointdoll #balljointdolls #doll #enchanteddoll #marinabychkova #resin #customdolls #painting #timelapse #video #abjd #artdoll
I’m never ever going to get tired of looking at this doll. I did get new eyes with smaller irises because even though the eyes Marina Bychkova (the artist who creates Enchanted Dolls) picked out for her dolls mimic the large painted eyes she does on her porcelains, I felt like unless the doll was being photographed under studio lights the large irises could sometimes make the eye sockets look very dark.
I don’t normally liked to post pictures of my dolls before they get their faceups, but I’m too excited to keep this one to myself:
This doll is so pretty in person and poses so nicely. This is the resin Enchanted Doll with the European face sculpt. Interestingly the doll apparently came directly from the artist Marina Bychkova to the previous owner with the eyelashes already inserted and a chin dimple in place, which the European sculpt usually doesn’t have - so I suspect this was a doll she intended to customize but then got bored/frustrated with the resin dolls so just sold her blank instead (the resin doll line was discontinued years ago - it appears in part because the artist didn’t enjoy the resin doll process as much as the porcelain doll process she’s famous for).
I won’t be painting this doll myself because I couldn’t really do her justice so hopefully in July she’ll be going away for spa visit but in the meantime look at how pretty the doll is even blank:
