     “self portraits are bothersome. portraits in general are bothersome.” there is something remorseful and bitter in the offhanded comment, spoken more to the hanging portrait before the two of them than to his current company. youngsoo was once more than adept at putting onto paper one’s likeness, whether in the vaguest of lines or in the sharpest of detail. but portraits grow boring, and exposing, and too much effort for someone like he. it is his reasoning when asked why he won’t commission such pieces of work, and not at all that drawing persons results only in bodies with scratched out, bleeding ink for facial features.

jay walker was literally just a cop-out for putting real lgbt rep in outrunning karma. he could’ve easily been gay or bi and he could’ve had a boyfriend (like hello??? alexander was right there), but instead the author took the easy way out by making him straight. like wow, straight, white, cis, able-bodied male protagonist? where have i ever seen that before? instead, all the lgbt characters are side-characters and all of them except for one has twisted morals. literally all the lgbt characters are villainized and are horrible people. jay walker is literally the representation of all the rampant h*moph/obia and tr*nspho/bia in the book :))) we don’t talk about how problematic he is enough for me

someone legit made a dyslexic character who’s plain stupid, and everyone is just rolling with it? you know people with dyslexia don’t have inferior intelligence in any way, AND YET?? Timmy could have been a great nod to people with learning disorders if he was given AT LEAST ONE BRAIN CELL. but he was just made to be a dumb, sO RaNdOm Owo !!, teenage boy who only cares about wasting his time? he’s not even intelligent enough to not drink a milkshake despite being lactose intolerant. his only talent is skateboarding. he basically gets adopted by a rich family and all he does is spend their money and live in their house without trying to make a better, successful person out of himself. typical gen Z stereotype. only cares about having fun, doesn’t give a flying fuck about what the future looks like because it’s nOT hERe yEt. ffs. he might as well have been written by some boomer who believes every “MiLLeNiaLS RuiNeD tHe X iNduStRY” article they see. the core concept of his character had so much potential, but it was all thrown to the wind. WE NEED BETTER LEARNING DISORDER REPRESENTATION.

tl;dr: Timmy is stupid because he’s yOuNg and has dyslexia. it’s very fucking damaging for him to even exist as a character.

It’s almost 2 AM, and Lake is just shuffling to her bed when her cell phone starts sounding off. She picks it up with a yawn, and there are few times when she’s heard Spencer sound THIS outwardly excited. Her tired mind is still wrapping around his voice when he suddenly quiets, worrying that he’s woken her up. She rubs her eyes with a chuckle.

“You’re fine, keep going.”

There’s a meteor shower, he tells her. He wants to watch it with her, so she pads over to her window, pulling the curtains aside and squinting through the glass. A second passes, then another, and then-- there.

“-- Do you see it?”

They flash sporadically across the sky, streaks of light vanishing as quickly as they appear. Lake nods faintly, “Yeah, I see them.” They don’t say anything for a few minutes, silence filtering in through the phone. She watches, arms wrapped around herself, and she can’t stop noticing the wide expanse of the night sky, how small meteors look flying in the distance compared to how big she imagines them to be. And she feels small-- so small-- that it becomes harder for her to focus on the meteors and fight against the tightening in her chest, the fogginess in her mind, the feeling of I am just a small spec in all this shit. 

By the time he speaks up again, asking her if she saw that really bright one, she’s tucked away in her bed, staring at the ceiling, hands closing and opening against her comforter. She chuckles at the awe in his tone, attempting to calm her anxious heart as she closes her eyes, “Yeah, it looked fucking cool.” 

She can’t find solace in the meteors or int he stars or the sky, but she finds a moment of peace in Spencer’s voice, as she picks out the small smiles and the tiredness weaving into his tone. And she doesn’t really think she deserves him, but she’ll take what she can get for now.
