Ok. Just finished this. I think. Like it right now. An old character of mine I reworked. Gilgamesh Gordon and the shadow of the underworld. In my mind it's Ghostbusters meets Hellboy meets Encyclopedia brown Hebkidart.com #demon #kiddetective #ghostbusters #hellboy #encyclopediabrown #comicart #artistsupportartists #devil #hell #bluedevil #scifiart #horrorart #storyinmyhead #art (at Lincoln, Nebraska, USA) https://www.instagram.com/p/CPFFfaqsSOM/?utm_medium=tumblr

But when I found some used books in the middle to late 90s the covers looked all alien and I couldn’t figure out which ones I had owned before. But I definitely had this one, with the cover showing Leroy Brown in his garage office with the sign outside. The sign that is referred to on page 10. “The terms of his business were clearly stated on the sign that hung outside the garage.” On that other cover, the sign reads, “Brown Detective Agency - Dover Avenue - Leroy Brown President - No case too small - 25¢ per day plus expenses” #encyclopediabrown #hardyboys #thehardyboys #nancydrew #donaldsobol #donaldjsobol #puffinbooks #puffin #leonardshortall #teenmysterysolvers #caseofthesecretpitch #baseball #thecaseofthesecretpitch #hungryhitchhiker #excalibur #brainsbenton #bobsytwins #bookstagram #booksofinstagram #ambushedcowboy #frankandjoehardy #frankandjoe #fentonhardy #secretpitch #hitchhiker (at Portland, Oregon) https://www.instagram.com/p/Bx99mgoB0BG/?igshid=3f0e3rlmgoq2
Encyclopedia Brown and the Case of the Carnival Crime
Encyclopedia Brown has done it again! He solves the mystery and saves the day. This book, written by DJ. Sobel and published posthumously by Puffin Books, 2012, is a fun read for kids, especially boys. Encyclopedia Brown And the Case of the Missing Carnival Crime is a fun and easy read for kids age 8- 11. The format is fun and entertaining, the plots are simple and straightforward and the characters are simple and relatable. Encyclopedia Brown has been a staple for young readers since it was first published in 1963. While a lot has changed since then, Encyclopedia Brown always solves the case.
The book contains ten chapters that each contain a mystery. Each case is approximately 4 pages each. The back of the book contains the solutions to each of the cases. This format makes each case fun to read. The details that lead Encyclopedia to uncover the mystery are entertaining for this age group. As a kid, I always loved the mystery genre. Detective work appeals greatly to this age group and this book does a good job at introducing kids to this type of format and genre. The mysteries are short, concise and the carnival setting is relatable to kids this age.
The plots to each mystery are simple and to the point. The plot contains only the elements necessary to move the story forward. Because this is a book for young readers, extraneous language and artistic language is not necessary. Sobel does a good job at using language efficiently and effectively. The age of the reader is an important factor and Sobel has done a good job at keeping his audience in mind. Overall, this book is a great “starter” for introducing this age range to chapter books.
Sobel does a good job at keeping the relationships and characters simple. Since these books are for younger readers, these types of relationships are ones they can relate to and understand. The characters speak a lot, in an effort to uncover the mysteries, and their language is elementary and comprehensible for the young reader. The characters, Encyclopedia Brown, Sally Brown, and Chief Brown and Mrs. Brown are all staple characters, as well as family. Encyclopedia helps his dad, Chief Brown solve the mysteries. Encyclopedia, Mrs. Brown and Mr.Brown often discuss the cases and clues together (Sobel & Bernardin, 2012).
Encyclopedia Brown is a great detective book for young kids. These books provide entertainment and enrichment. The format makes for a fun read and the mysteries keep the kids turning the page. While the book does not contain any deep meanings, it is a fun read, and very enjoyable. This is a must for boys and girls will love it as well. The series is a great way to introduce kids to the mystery genre and catch their attention. Reluctant readers will be turning the page as asking for more Encyclopedia Brown.
