On June 20th thousands of people flocked to London from all across the country to oppose the new government's program. The biggest rally gathered about 250,000 protesters. Diverse public representing a huge variety of backgrounds was united by The People's Assembly Against Austerity group. The main issue of the Anti-austerity march was the recent Tory's program leading to major cuts to the public spending and public services. Ordinary workers, people from the public sector. private sector and trade unions made it clear that their voices need to be heard as they are the ones being hit by new policies. "We will not rest until austerity is history, our services are back in public hands and the needs of the majority are put first," says one of the demonstration organisers Sam Fairbairn. Budget 2015

To be honest, we shouldn't be so angry. We could have easily seen this coming. After the Tories' dubious majority in this year's general election, this is what we all said would happen. Yet, deep down, we all still had a twinge of hope that the Conservatives wouldn't be so cold hearted. But, alas, here we are. The new budget, predictably further pushes the poor into poverty, whilst giving the rich a bonus. Osborne's new budget is sickening. it no longer feels like drastic, but almost justifiable cuts to "save" the economy, it feels like a full on attack upon the people lower down in society. Unemployed 18 to 21s no longer get housing benefits, leaving young people worse off. Didn't Osborne consider the fact that some young people who have been kicked out of their homes may rely upon this money? Maintenance grants for university will no longer be available, something that for a lot of my friends has been a huge factor in them applying for university. The new "living wage" does not apply for people under 25, this apparent saving grace from Osborne's budget completely ignoring young people is inexcusable. However, we've barely touched upon the other cuts, which are forcing tens of thousands more children into poverty and putting a lot of low income families thousands of pounds worse off each years. Osborne's lack of empathy really reflects the Tories' lack of connection with anyone not born into privilege. Stopping child benefit on the third child and onwards is disgusting. As Jeremy Corbyn said, does this mean that they are worth less than the first two children? Because they were born into a bigger family does this mean that the child should be worse off? The Conservatives lack of connection is further amplified by decreasing the inheritance tax by a further one million pounds, a move that will only benefit the rich. The austerity being forced upon the nation is one that will lead to disastrous consequences. Without the Lib Dems to hold the Conservatives back, they have assumed their true role of forcing classes further and further apart, forgetting that we are all equal and insisting that money is more important that human lives. There has to be a point where this stops. There has to be someone or something that stops them. Promising a raise for the minimum wage that will most likely not happen is not enough. I encourage you, my reader to not just sit there and agree with this message, but to go out and do something. Go to protests, create petitions, get involved with politics and stop the blight upon our nation. Forcefully widening the gap between the rich and the poor creates more gaps elsewhere, ripples giving racism, sexism, homophobia and other old viewpoints to resurface, creating new platforms for them to scream their wretched opinions at the world. Don't let this happen. Show them that we are better than this, that we will rise above this and improve. We need equality, not austerity.
