National elections: Papua New Guinea
Pray for the nation of Papua New Guinea. The national general elections were completed during the first week of August. Ask the Lord for His peace to prevail as the declared winners for each of the 111 seats of the Parliament take up their responsibilities. Pray that the new members will serve their country wholeheartedly and not be intimidated by factions or yield to the temptation of personal gain. Pray that godly members will stand firm in their convictions and be deeply rooted in their faith. Pray that the newly-formed government will run smoothly and with integrity. Ask God to give the new Prime Minister wisdom and guidance as he selects the people for the ministry positions in the government. Bible translation work is in progress in many of the 800+ languages of Papua New Guinea. Peace and political stability provide a good environment for missions to grow and go forward, including Bible translation.
Communication workshop follow-up: Asia Pacific
Thank you for praying. The communication workshop on messaging for Wycliffe Global Alliance Asia Pacific area ran well. Sixteen participants, including four facilitators, represented 12 nationalities and different Alliance organizations in the area. They gathered together from 18 to 20 July in Bangkok, Thailand. The three main learning and discussion topics were Bible translation and missio Dei, community and global mission context. Ask for God’s wisdom and guidance as they seek to move their understanding of missio Dei* from head knowledge to practical application. Pray for ongoing efforts to encourage these communicators to build friendships and to discover ways in which they can serve one another and contribute to the big picture of the Bible translation movement.

Administration and capacity building: Tonga
Pray for the Bible Translation Organization of Tonga as they seek to build capacity in their management and operational systems. Ask the Lord to provide qualified staff members who are committed in their Christian faith and practice. Pray for good support from their families, friends and the local church. Pray as they seek to build up financial resources from within the country. Ask the Lord to help them to develop godly accountability policies and practices with the finances and resources they receive for the ministry.
Financial support: Solomon Islands
Praise the Lord for the funding from the Solomon Islands Government in this fiscal year to help with the administrative functions of the Bible Translation and Literacy Partnership Solomon Islands (BTLP). There is still a great need for pastoral visits to encourage the Bible translation teams in language areas under BTLP supervision. The director Andrew Fanasia and his leaders are seeking additional financial support to help toward these and related costs. Ask the Lord for His favor and provision as BTLP seeks ways to raise funds to meet their needs.
Celebrating and developing resources: Senegal
Give thanks that the completed Oniyan New Testament and the book of Genesis were celebrated in January in Senegal. The translation team is preparing other Scripture-based books and recordings so that a range of resources will be available to the community. Both the New Testament and Genesis will be produced as audio recordings. Oniyan churches have access to worship songs written in their heart language. Praise God for the hard work of the team and their devotion to expanding his kingdom. Ask the Lord to use these audio and printed materials to impact peoples' lives. Pray that the Oniyan people will use and cherish their new Bibles and continue to teach God's Word to the next generations. (Adapted from the Wycliffe USA Finish Line 2017)
Awaiting New Testament arrival: Central African Republic
Give praise that a consultant finished reviewing all the Dagba New Testament books last year. A digital print specialist formatted the text. Pray for the specialist who is finalizing the footnotes and maps. Pray that the printing process will move forward seamlessly and that the books will be delivered safely. The Dagba people hope to celebrate God's Word in their language by the end of this year. Ask the Holy Spirit to work in their hearts, creating a hunger and thirst for God's Word. Checking Scriptures in Simbari: Papua New Guinea
Praise God that the entire New Testament in Simbari is now in draft form. Pray for the translation team as they process the individual book drafts through rigorous checking procedures necessary before the books can be released for publication. They want to be sure that the text sounds natural, is accurate and can be easily understood. Pray for the team to have focus, wisdom and energy to finish this procedure. Ask the Lord to bless their families with good health and stability so the team can concentrate on their work. Pray that God's Word will powerfully influence the lives of the translators as they work with it day after day. (Simbari; Papua New Guinea, pop. 4,000. Adapted from the Wycliffe USA Finish Line 2017)
