I’ve always thought it likely. I think Terros or whatever you want to call it is going through a resurgence of magic (both the ice and the fire kind), but it’s going to be temporary. The dragons came back as their natural enemy, the Others, are stirring beyond the Wall. It’s like nature spontaneously seeking balance. Once the Others will be defeated again, the dragons will also have to cease to exist to maintain the balance. They’re too dangerous, too lethal, and their existence gives an unfair amount of power to those who are able to control them, as shown by the history of the Targaryen dynasty in Westeros (and the dragonlords of Valyria before them).
But I’m not 100% committed to it. I think the Others will be stopped, but not completely defeated, so they’ll come back again, be it in a hundred or a thousand years. By the same logic it’s possible that at least a dragon survives. Or lives long enough to lay an egg or more, and that these eggs, if not Dany’s dragons themselves, will represent hope for the future.
do you think when everyone is fighting the others beyond the wall, sansa will also be there? i don't see the point of her staying in WF since most people will go to fight but i also don't know what she'll do at the wall in terms of fighting
hey, have a look at the post I’ve just reblogged.
(I don’t think the fight against the Others will be limited to the land beyond the Wall; I think the Wall will either fall or be breached and the Others will invade which means the entire continent—at least the region north of the Neck—will be in serious danger. If that’s the case, then Sansa will be relatively close to the fighting even if she stays in Winterfell. Winterfell in itself is extra relevant because its thick walls and hot springs are the perfect place to gather as many people as you can, protect them from the cold and from the Others, and organize a defense. Sansa won’t do any actual fighting because she isn’t trained to do so, but she can inspire people—especially women, children, the sick and the old and everyone who can’t fight—to hold on and stay alive and buy time until the three heads defeat the enemy.)
free from the influence of any abuser or sexual predator
reunited with her surviving siblings
(maybe) with her own guard of loyal knights (sandor? brienne?)
—though I’m sure things will get a lot worse before they get better, I’m moderately confident that sansa’s narrative points towards reclaiming her identity, freeing herself from littlefinger’s clutches (possibly being responsible of his downfall/death) and going north, not necessarily in this order.
—I truly don’t care who she ends up with romantically (or if she does at all) as long as the points above remain true.
—I don’t want sansa to end up away from home or married to some southron lord, because being in the south was what she initially wanted, and I think that a good conclusion to her arc would be being back to the place she initially saw as stifling and boring, and finding how much she loves it compared to all the glitter and glamour of southern courts, which she now knows was rotten beneath the surface. Plus, her longing for winterfell has been a recurring theme in her storyline since acok, even the imagery surrounding her has progressively become more and more *northern* (the godswood, her alayne stone persona with her dark hair and simple clothes, the snow in the eyrie, building a snow castle, etc.). So I definitely think that a winterfell endgame is what sansa is headed to. (also because I utterly despise the idea that lady’s death = her connection to the north and to her ~inner starkness~ is permanently severed)
—it also doesn’t matter to me whether she’s queen in the north or not. tbh I’d rather see her in a counselor/hand of the king position, where she gets to use her diplomatic and political skills without sitting on the actual throne. more thoughts on the topic here.
—if she’s not in winterfell, then I hope she is given a smaller castle somewhere in the north and rules it (whether she’s married or not). maybe she can be the next lady of barrowton, or of the dreadfort. :)
—whatever happens, I hope sansa’s endgame involves working out her issues with arya, and learning to forge a more mature and balanced relationship with her.
hi! which characters do you think absolutely will survive to the end of the series and why? likewise, who do you think is doomed and why? (love your tumblr, btw! it's actually legible. i swear i have to squint all the time at the #aesthetic blogs with tiny ass font.)
Thank you! ^^ *speculation mode on* Those I’m certain will make it to the end of the series and SURVIVE, as in, live a long (if not necessarily happy, because… hey, this is asoiaf)life, are the Stark kids: Sansa, Arya, Bran, Rickon. (I’m not sure about the specifics of Bran’s fate, there is this huge debate in the fandom as to whether he is forever bound to Bloodraven’s cave (or, as some put it, “turning into a tree”) or if he will be actually able to leave the cave and go back home, only to return to the cave when he’s really old (if ever). I tend to believe it’s the latter, as being tied to the weirwoods seems to be vital to Bloodraven because he’s basically an ancient corpse kept alive by magic, while Bran is a young and healthy boy (if not for his legs) and once the Others’ emergency is over, I see no reason for him to stay in the cave 24/7. On the other hand, grrm can be very cruel, and demands sacrifices from his characters. But hasn’t Bran already sacrificed a lot? anyway, I digress).
then we have a second row of characters that are 100% going to survive until the end because they’re vital to the final battle but might or might not die saving the world in ADOS’ climax—Jon, Tyrion, Dany. Regardless of what will be required from them to defeat the Others, you could make a case for both Jon and Dany that they’re currently living on borrowed time as they both “died” and were resurrected with supernatural intervention—Jon quite literally, Dany by surviving a pyre and coming out of it as the Mother of Dragons because *magic*. With Tyrion is more complicated because his “death/resurrection” experience is much more on a thematic/symbolical level: he was severely injured during the battle of the Blackwater, and his survival had nothing to do with magic. So I don’t know? Maybe he’s the one who lives? maybe not? (maybe he’s not one of the Three after all? I’m not sure about anything)
Some other characters that I have a feeling will survive: Davos, Sam, Gilly, Asha, Missandei, Gendry; maybe Val and/or Tormund, someone identifiable from the Wildlings crew has to survive. Also Sandor (he’s already “dead”, in the sense that the narrative made you believe he was dead and he isn’t—a similar trick was pulled with Brienne’s hanging—so maybe this means that he won’t die “again” because that would be redundant, but this is pure speculation). And Brienne for the reasons I explained.
I’m REALLY torn about: Theon (I really want him to live though), Meera&Hodor (I think Jojen is already gone at this point), Margaery, various members of the Night’s Watch (like Edd Tollett? tbh he should survive to bring his dark humor in the New World), Daario Naharis (??? total wild card), Sweetrobin (he seemed doomed at the end of affc, and yet apparently he’s still alive, so maybe LF’s plans on him aren’t immediately lethal and he has a chance to survive), Doran & Arianne (I’ve read convincing speculation that they’re going to die, possibly at Dany’s hands, but their narrative is a bit confusing to me so I won’t venture a guess).
Those who are really, probably, genuinely, fucked: it pains me, but Myrcella and Tommen (prophecy), Cersei (prophecy), Gilly’s child (sacrificed to resurrect Jon?), Shireen (Stannis is going to pull an agamemnon/iphigenia on her, and if he doesn’t, there’s always Patchface. sigh), Stannis himself (I think his storyline is going to have a distinct acceleration towards the tragic), the Boltons (honestly about time), Loras (unless the news about his injuries are false or exaggerated), Illyrio Mopatis, Varys, LITTLEFINGER, Qyburn, a lot of people in King’s Landing, the Sand Snakes, Lady Stoneheart (already dead, let poor Catelyn rest in peace) & probably part of the BWB, Harry the Heir, Walder Frey (and family), the Greyjoy nuncles (villains all around, especially Euron&Victarion, sorry guys but you have to go), the Real Mance Rayder™ (it doesn’t bode well that his BEST option is currently Stannis), Jon Connington, Aegon; probably Melisandre, Barristan, Jorah.
and Jaime. I do have this vivid image of him joining the Night’s Watch as endgame, and I’m really attached to it because it’s beautiful and fitting and all, but Jaime is directly responsible for the war of the 5 kings in at least two ways (pushing Bran & committing incest/treason with Cersei), and if you pay attention most of the people who were involved with it are dead, or will be. So why would George make an exception for Jaime, I wonder. He still might though, it’s just rather unlikely. I guess it depends a lot on where Jaime’s arc is actually headed, valonqar aside :/
(re: fonts, lmao, I can relate. I spend a lot of time at the computer so small text is really a pain to my eyes, so I edited the css on my blog to make the font more reader-friendly. Anyways in case it’s still too small, you can fix it by hitting ctrl + to increase the font size even more. XD)
