A whole generation of culture makers was lost when the AIDS epidemic began. Today is a day to remember and commemorate those that have been lost to AIDS, to support those people who are currently living with HIV, and to educate yourself and others about an invisible disease that is too often stigmatised or ignored! #EVERYBODYCOUNTS #ENDINGHIVSTIGMA #HIVISNOTADEATHSENTENCE “World AIDS Day is held on 1 December each year. It raises awareness across the world and in the community about the issues surrounding HIV and AIDS. It is a day for people to show their support for people living with HIV and to commemorate people who have died.” ( http://www.worldaidsday.org.au/internet/wad/Publishing.nsf/content/home ) The #ENDINGHIV campaign is great and all, and, don’t get me wrong, it is a very important campaign, but it is not really what today is about!! Yes, everyone should definitely get tested and know their status (and that includes straight people too!). We now live in an age where there is no excuse not to know your status and to either seek treatment or stay protected, but today is not a day for that campaign. That campaign, while it has been very successful in reducing new diagnosis, quite frankly does nothing to combat stigma, sometimes actually fuelling it. Today is a day of remembrance, and destigmatisation! Please buy a red ribbon in support of HIV research and maybe take a moment today to educate yourself and learn something! #WORLDAIDSDAY #HIV #AIDS #PLWHIV #AWARENESS #DESTIGMATISATION #REMEMBRANCE #COMMEMORATION #SUPPORT #EDUCATEYOURSELF #WEAREALLCLEAN #WEAREALLEQUAL #NOH8 https://www.instagram.com/p/Bq03lVjlj9i/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1izyaml9f6cb1
