V important thing I need to know about you: If you had a dragon, would it be a little dragon you could wear like a snuggly living scarf or a big dragon you could ride about on? Vital information!!
Ooooh. I think a big dragon I could ride on, if it was legal to ride a dragon across the country. Because HOW FUCKING COOL WOULD THAT BE. Swing by to visit my friends gliding up on a motherfucking dragon.
Hi, loving the book recs! I was just wondering if you knew of any books/comics aimed at slightly younger readers (in the 9-12 bracket) that feature lgbtia characters? I'm trying to build up inclusive bookshelves for my kids but they aren't old enough for ya fiction and are too old for picture books. Thanks for your help!
Hi there! Thanks for the great question, it’s so great that you’re doing this. And I’m SO SORRY for the slow response.
The only two I can recommend are Gracefully Grayson by Ami Polonsky and the forthcoming George by Alex Gino, which both feature trans main characters.
I know there are more, but I just haven’t read them! I’d check out this list on Goodreads. Followers, any recs?
I was watching all that cute Blaine and Kitty being friends stuff in the background of the last episode and I thought of you and your Newbies fic... As Blaine flicked his feather boa I like to think he and Kitty shared a look and whispered 'boys can be diva's too' whilst miles away Marley woke up with a single tear on her face and Unique gazed meaningfully from her palace of awesome an whispered 'I'm coming to you my bb's I'm on my way...'
As a non-us-ian my info on Ohio comes from a couple of news stories & tv shows fictionally set there that are actually somewhere else completely! So can you tell me something that strikes you as weird as you trek through Ohio? How about something obvious and mundane about it? Sometimes things remind me that, for all you guys speak the same language, the US is a faraway weird foreign country to me, so much of the time it's familiar because of all the media & then someone talks about their pants!!
So, (a) this is actually a really hard question for reasons I will expand on below and I am so far from an expert so somebody else should give a better answer if you’ve got it.But (b) I have actually given this a fair bit of thought and the answer I have is: I got nothing. There is nothing distinctly Ohioan and in fact that is the most distinctly Ohioan thing I can find. (Except for buckeye candies, which I’m not sure even come from here, but let’s be generous because they totally should. Hence the ice cream photo.)
(A thing I am not talking about here is demographics. To me Ohio feels like a pretty white state except in its cities. Looking at the numbers, the most striking thing about racial demographics in Ohio is how high the percentage of non-Hispanic Whites is, comparatively speaking. Overall the Black population in Ohio is strikingly similar in size to the Black population of the US: a little over 12% in 2010. Ohio’s population of Asians and Hispanics is much smaller than in the US a whole, which is probably WHY it feels so much whiter to me. A thing for me to think about is if or how much that shapes that “general America” feeling. So that’s pretty gross.)
And just a general observation here: it can’t be a mistake that RM is from Indiana and set Glee where he did. These cities are places to live, places to be from, not things you use to sell stuff. I think maybe these are places where your identity comes from maybe your neighborhood, your school, your community - not necessarily the borders. So I don’t know what to tell you, as a non-American. Thinking about Glee, what I think most of all is that those Glee kids are fucking weirdos, coastal cultural oddities who really don’t belong in the Ohio I see and the one I think they were making back in S1. (I think the Ohio they are making now is a very different place.)
You know who I think belongs to Western Ohio, in particular? Stoner Brett. David Karofsky. And, goddamnit, Finn Hudson.
God I have no idea if that answers your questions. :-P SOMEBODY ELSE TAKE OVER.
endlessandsinging replied to your post:There’s a sex scene I need to write and there’s...
Stop shaming my ship vespa!Blaine x uhaul!Dave are my motp <3 You should read that HogwartsxGiantSquid R fic to distract you from how adorable vespa!Blaine would be… aww he’s so cute!
Oh, as motor vehicle ships go, that one is pretty cute...it's just that between non-vehicle scenes I'm fighting with and the really bad sex puns currently coming to mind...
If you find any awesome Edmund/Caspian X fic could you rec it? Finding the good stuff has been a little like tracking down your Dad's favourite Councillors after your wicked uncle deposed him, so if you have any to share I'd be grateful (like Eustace is no longer a dragon grateful)! Thank you x
I've bookmarked a few on my AO3, but I honestly haven't found that many I've actually liked. I'd recommend going through their tag on AO3 and staying away from ff.net because I checked and there's nothing good over there. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful, because trust me, I want to find some more fic too.
