So I Went Back To The Endocronologist Today...
I had to have blood work done since the last time I was there and get my thyroid scanned with an ultrasound. My thyroid antibodies were high (which is why I was referred to him in the first place) and they found a nodule on the right side of my gland. He says it's probably nothing, but he still wants to do a biopsy just to make sure. And I am scared out of my mind.
I'm not scared that I may have cancer or anything. If I do, I'm young, I'll probably live through it. What's scaring me right now is the actual biopsy.
There are two ways to biopsy the thyroid. They either have a surgeon open up your throat while you're knocked out and take a sample that way or stick a thin needle in your throat while you're awake and take a sample. Guess which one's the more common one! And while they have the needle in your throat, you can't move, talk, or swallow at all while your head rests at an awkward angle. Hopefully I'll be able to convince them to knock me out or put me in a twilight sleep for the procedure. It'll be worth the hospital trip later (general anesthesia makes me throw up hours after it's worn off) if I can avoid being conscious for what sounds like an absolutely terrifying procedure.
