Well that was unnecessarily exciting - I restarted my laptop to install a new update package, and apparently the update from Linux kernel 5.7.19 to 5.8.7 completely fucked over my keyboard and mouse inputs. Thank goodness my little machine is a two-in-one so I was able to use the touchscreen (which somehow wasn’t affected) to fumble through what I needed in order to reboot from the older kernel version. As a result, TIL about the GRUB menu.
hmm, my laptop just died even though the battery was at >50% power. I'm either on the cusp of buying a new battery, or accepting the fact that I am using the world's most portable desktop computer.
