Eastern Exotics Wildlife, Gemstones and Diving @easternexotics would like to share awareness for @seathefilm ・・・ Petition to help Protect Maldives Sharks in bio 🦈 - A message from @shawnheinrichs. 🦈 "The Maldives, a global leader in dive eco-tourism, has had a ban on shark fishing for over 10 years and this has created a critical oasis for sharks in the Indian Ocean. However, under pressure from the exploitive fisheries sector, they are now considering lifting the ban and allowing shark fishing to resume. This would have a devastating impact on vulnerable shark populations. Minister Zaha said that she sees "no reason not to" lift the ban to reap benefits from fishing this economic resource.” - With Maldives having declared a climate emergency, it is inconsistent for the country to undermine its position as a safe haven and hope-spot for sharks which play a vital role in maintaining thehealth of the Maldives’ marine environment. - We are slaughtering over 100 million sharks per year and many sharks populations have declined by as much as 90-99% in the past few decades. - Sign the petition in my bio to urging the government of the Maldives to not reopen shark fisheries: - #EndTheWarOnSharks #ExtinctionEndsHere #bethechange #lightonecandle #seaspiracy #fyp #ocean #sea #environment #likeforlike #like #fy #foryou #sharks #plasticpollution https://www.instagram.com/p/CNAQwQinCFW/?igshid=16ha1xjszp8i
