#3 Discrepancy – Zooming in on Mark
The context of Mark 1:1 is Mark’s introduction to Jesus’ ministry, calling it the “Gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God” Mark gets right to the point by telling us that the gospel he’s a witness to is the gospel of God’s son, Jesus!
The context of Mark 1:12-15 is right after the temptation of Christ by Satan in the wilderness. Jesus is in Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God to Israel. He tells them that this is the fulfillment of prophecy and to repent and believe this gospel!
The context of Mark 8:35 is about standing up for the gospel that Jesus was teaching. In a word, martyrdom. “For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel's, the same shall save it.”
The context of Mark 10:29-30 is all about rewards! The apostles were complaining that they left everything to follow Jesus; now what? Jesus assured them that putting aside everything for his sake would result in a much great reward.
The context of Mark 13 is a future event, the tribulation period, leading up to the second coming of Jesus Christ. The gospel that they have learned up to this time will once again be in effect. Read through these verses and notice there is no hint of grace or of salvation by the work of Jesus’ cross! These people will have to endure much suffering to the end and trust God to get them through it for their salvation.
The context of Mark 14:9 is the same as Matthew 26:6-13 the woman anointing Jesus with oil.
The context of Mark 16:15-20 is what people refer to as the “Great Commission.” (That term is not in the Bible!) This is where Jesus instructs his disciples to preach the gospel that he taught them. Check the qualifiers of this gospel and see if these things are for you today. Is there any mention of salvation by the work of the cross? Is there any mention of the free gift of grace? Do signs and wonders follow you? Do you think if you drank any deadly thing you’d recover?
15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. 16 He that believes and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believes not shall be damned. 17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; 18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. 19 So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God. 20 And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.
When life is hard, sometimes all I can do is dream of my future to help combat the sad, the frustration, the exhaustion. :: 2019 has been hard. December has been rough. On one hand, I’m at the point where I’ve had it up to “here”. While on the other, I feel like the dregs of a drink being sucked through a straw, you know the sound it makes; and what is left of me will evaporate. :: I’m weary. I’m exhausted. I’m stressed. But I’m still trying. Trying to endure to the end of this month, this year, this season of trials. :: I am so thankful for my Family, Friends and my Faith. Please continue to send prayers and positive thoughts my way. :: #trials #hardships #tryingtokeepmyheadup #thankful #enduretotheend https://www.instagram.com/p/BrYq6X-AEKQ/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=18arcgwrnnh5m
