she’s SILENT for the longest time when she takes the chair to emily’s left. crossing one leg over the other, ashley’s arms wrap around herself -- and not because she’s cold. eyes glued to the concrete floor below the two of them, bitten and dry lips flatten against pale and patchy, freckled skin. ashley is no longer AFRAID ; she’s been to HELL & BACK in twenty-four hours. sitting next to emily while she’s being examined by a medical professional is child’s play. the squeaking of the shined shoes of the man in the grey turtleneck are the only cracks in the immovable silence, but then -- there is light. ashley’s laughter. perhaps it’s inappropriate to laugh at a time like this, but it’s either to laugh or to cry ( and she knows josh wouldn’t want her to cry -- wherever he was. ) ‘ ... we survived. ‘
