Despite knowing this entire timeline is going to be overwritten the scene of Narvin documenting and basically narrating his own murder gets me every time.

I think writing this particular scene in this way was such a brilliant move since it creates such an unsettling atmosphere and also underlines the tragedy of Narvin dying scared and alone, having known he’s being hunted and probably won’t get out of this alive, but still managing to compose himself enough to give a matter of fact account of exactly what’s happening to him in the hopes it might help his friends prevent it from happening to anyone else.

It’s also a nice parallel to Romana’s narration in the beginning and her blasé attitude towards what she believed would be a suicide mission.

okay alright. narvin's quietly scared voice growing into trembling terror and his clutching onto authority for meaning is very compelling. god. he narrated and recorded his entire death except for the part where he actually got murdered. he records his security message in this room full of all the past of the time lords, a place inherently full of intrigue. but he has no power, his threats mean nothing, he can't even call himself coordinator, and he dies alone and terrified and in pain.

(the actual message of gallifrey is that nothing good ever happens in the matrix databanks)
