The practice of Bandhas is one of the elements that make part of the Tristana when practicing Ashtanga. The Bandhas are energetic locks the are performed through muscular and subtle actions to control the breath and the movements of the body. The practice of Bandhas supports our physical practice but also transforms our practice into something beyond the tangible and rational, working on a subtle way over the layers of our being. Even if Bandhas are locks, their main purpose is to unlock the energy that flows through our spine and reach our highest self. The Bandhas are physically activated through our different diaphragms: pelvic diaphragm or pelvic floor (Moola Bandha), respiratory diaphragm (Uddhiyana Bandha) and the vocal cords which are something like a diaphragm in our trachea (Jalandara Bandha). The forth Bandha is called Maha Bandha and corresponds to the activation of the three Bandhas at the same time. Later this week I️ will be posting some videos and more detailed explanations about each Bandha. #bandhas #tristana #ashtanga #ashtangayoga #energeticlocks #moolabandha #uddhiyanabandha #jalandarabandha #yogaisequanimity #luanafarayoga (at Balance Yoga Studio)
