Engineering Career Fair Collaborative Top 5

Six universities are combining forces to create one large engineering career fair full of opportunity. The companies attending are offering both full-time and internship opportunities in new exciting fields such as robotics, energy, medical devices, environmental sciences, transportation, and design. 52 companies are coming to meet students at this fair, and to help you get started, here is a sneak peek into the Top 5:

1. SpaceX – SpaceX is the world’s fastest growing provider of advanced rocket and spacecraft launching services. They have the ultimate goal of enabling people to live on other planets! They are currently the only private company that is capable of returning a spacecraft from low Earth orbit. SpaceX is offering positions in chemical, electrical, and mechanical engineering to sophomores – seniors, undergraduate alumni, graduate students and graduate alumni.

2. SharkNinja – SharkNinja is a company in the housewares industry – it is one of the top brands in vacuum cleaners, and one of the market leaders in the kitchen category. They have over 150 products, and over 550 U.S. patents! They have earned a loyal and passionate following by having a focus on solving consumer’s pain points. SharkNinja has positions in electrical and mechanical engineering for juniors, seniors, and master’s students.

3. Lyft – Lyft is revolutionizing cars by building a world-class self-driving system. They want to make sure that technology breakthroughs are applied to the transportation industry! Their goal is to make transportation safer and more accessible for everyone. They believe with fewer cars on the road and less air pollution, they can reshape cities. Lyft is offering positions in biomedical, chemical, electrical, environmental, and mechanical engineering to sophomores – seniors, and graduate students.

4. Realtime Robotics, Inc. – Realtime Robotics is working on a special purpose processor that enables robots and vehicles to instantly react to their environments. They want to overcome the primary obstacle that is preventing robots and autonomous vehicles from achieving their true potential. Realtime Robotics has positions in electrical and mechanical engineering for all undergraduate students, undergraduate alumni, graduate students, and graduate alumni.

5. Ginkgo Bioworks – Ginkgo Bioworks designs custom microbes for customers across multiple markets. They engineer these organisms by using software and hardware automation. They believe that biology is the most advanced manufacturing technology on the planet! Ginkgo Bioworks is offering positions in biomedical, chemical, and environmental engineering to juniors, seniors, undergraduate alumni, graduate students, and graduate alumni.

William Fried, SB '19, a mechanical engineering concentrator. waits to talk to recruiters about his interest in engineering design during the Engineering Career Fair Collaborative. The Nov. 15 event brought together undergrads from all over Boston and the greater New England area. A wide range of organizations, such as Amazon Robotics and Los Alamos National Laboratory, representing diverse fields from medical devices to transportation, greeted students from Harvard, MIT, Boston University, Tufts University, Olin College, and Yale University. The atmosphere was full of excitement and apprehension as many suit-clad undergrads passed along resumes to the employers of their dreams. The event was a success in exposure for both types of attendees; companies met with a wealth of talented students, while young engineers caught a glimpse of what their future careers might look like. Top 5: Engineering Career Fair Collaborative 2016

For this career fair, Harvard is teaming up with Boston University, MIT, Olin College and Tufts University to bring in the best organizations in robotics, energy, medical devices, environmental services, and design. 36 companies will be attending this fair – make sure to check them out! If at first you don’t know which companies you are interested in, stop by these Top 5 to get you started:

SpaceX – SpaceX’s dream is to be able to make life sustainable on other planets. But in the meantime, the company is sending advanced rockets into outer space and making history. SpaceX is the only private company to return a spacecraft from low-Earth orbit! Check them out on YouTube here. They are offering positions in electrical engineering, environmental engineering, and mechanical engineering to sophomores, juniors, seniors, graduate students, and alumni.

Energy Solutions – Energy Solutions aims to make environmental impacts by providing cost-effective energy, carbon, and water management solutions. The company wants to provide a balance of health, happiness, and prosperity for their staff – together the staff plans trips outside of working hours to go skiing, hiking, rock climbing, and rafting! Energy Solutions is looking for seniors, graduate students, and alumni to work in electrical and mechanical engineering.

BrainCo Inc. – BrainCo works to use a BMI (Brain Machine Interface) to facilitate optimized brain potential. They want to use technology in creative ways to change the way we live. They have positions in biomedical, electrical, and mechanical engineering, and are offering positions to all college students, graduate students, and alumni.

Altitude Inc. – Altitude creates people-centered products to grow businesses – they turn ideas into products. They believe that the key to success is communication – they make sure to form deep connections between the client and the consultant. Altitude is looking for mechanical engineers that are college juniors, college seniors, graduate students, or alumni.

Microdesk – Microdesk aims to help architecture, engineering, and construction firms with implementing and utilizing designs. They are really focused on the big picture – Microdesk assists at all points in a project, from planning and design to construction and maintenance. Microdesk offers jobs in electrical engineering and mechanical engineering to seniors, graduate students, and alumni.
