Friendship Headcanons?? i have them aplenty, come get em fresh!!! IF NO ONE MAKES CONTENT OF THEIR FRIENDSHIP I WILL DO IT MYSELF THEN
i like to think their friendship doesn’t completely solidify until post-GRev; sure they consider each other friends and teammates, but it was mostly by association since their friends are friends. its after the whole chaos where the lull of daily life returning kinda had them just sit down, take a breather and realise that they miss being around friends
so i think, it kinda just. grows from there:
Kai tends to be...gentle with Hilary. not in a way where he belittles her or does an 180 in personality but, he often displays the same behaviour he has with Max whenever he’s with her; just a little bit more patient, just a little softer around the edges
but he doesn’t really give her any special treatment beyond that, since she’s an equal in his eyes, a respect that Hilary very much appreciates
Kai doesn’t trust anyone with driving his very nice and shiny car, EXCEPT Hilary because she has a) a brain, b) patience, and c) is responsible. oh? Max wants to practice his driving? sure, here are the keys, take Hilary or be ready to run laps until you puke.
Hilary really appreciates Kai’s trust in her but she’s also not above calling him out when he’s being a jerk or falling back into unhealthy habits – and as much as he grumbles about it, he’s secretly thankful that she isn’t afraid to stand up to him when he’s in a funk
Tala likes to joke they and Ray are the Competent Squad of the Team but he and Hilary both know its just her. she’s the competent one. Ray sometimes gets too mischievous for his own good and Kai isn’t patient enough to deal with them, so Hilary has to kick their asses back into gear

when Hilary announced that she got herself a date, Kai (and the other boys ofc) kind of went unconsciously into Overprotective Mode – dont get them wrong, they know Hilary could move mountains if given the opportunity, but that wont stop them from being protective

Kai once accidentally ripped his scarf and after finding him trying to clumsily mend it himself, Hilary sewed it back together for him. every since then whenever he rips something he just wordlessly walks up to Hilary in a silent request to help him
they have a rather obvious height difference, but that doesn’t stop Hilary from being fiercely protective of this guy, who’s almost two heads taller than her, whenever he gets uncomfortable around people
for some reason, Kai knows exactly how much Hilary can benchpress and tbh the team doesn’t know what terrifies them more; Kai knowing or the fact that Hilary could probably benchpress Max

Hilary tends to get very nice jewellery from Kai as birthday presents; they are usually very simple and lowkey but look pretty nonetheless. these days you often meet her with small ruby earrings that the team swear are genuine. Kai never comments. (they are real.)
in a way, Kai sees Hilary as breath of fresh air – she’s cheerful and headstrong, yet kind and mature. on the other hand, Hilary finds Kai’s presence as comfortingly grounding, when things seems to get too hectic around her, he always seems like constant. its like they balance each other out in a way.
their friendship isnt a loud one. or super obvious. its quiet, but soft and kind. its a bond that very appreciated by both of them, so its not unusual to see Hilary take notes of training procedures to run it by Kai after, and not a few hours later she is seen dragging him around the store by the arm.
look im not saying Hilary would shank Boris if she ever got close enough but Hilary would most definitely come at him with a sword and Kai would stand aside with his phone like “you’re doing great Hilary”
I wish there were more fics about the Bladebreakers truly loving being friends with Hilary. QuQ Some of them (Kai, Tyson, Kenny(??)) probably never had a girl for a friend, so it brings a whole new perspective to them. Plus, I bet they suprise her on her birthday with gifts that fit her interesst, or support her in the same way as she support them. Just... me being weak to female-male friendship QUQ < 3
LITERALLY....idk what some writers are on but if i were any of the Bladebreakers i’d love, respect and appreciate Hilary every day of my life because she’s so willing to put with 5 WHOLE TEENAGE BOYS nearly everyday of the week. meanwhile i grew up with one (1) younger brother and i barely made it (jk i love him but if he touches my shit one more time–) so like yes? STOP BEING COWARDS AND WRITE MORE HILARY + BLADEBREAKERS FRIENDSHIP.
Tbh, i like to imagine Kai has very little experience with girls because of the Abbey and the fact he went to an all boys school but bless his heart, he’s trying because he does see Hilary as part of the team but shit, he’s so out of his element. its endearing and hilarious, actually. girls like small animals right? let’s give her a frog. why is she screaming.
Tyson and Kenny are kind of way too used to her since they go to the same school. it’s not like they disrespect her (well, Kenny doesn’t) but she’s a classmate and now a teammate, so not much changes for them really. so they just continue to bicker (Tyson at least) and push each others buttons (again, Tyson) but at the end of the day, if you hurt or insult Hilary, they are out to get you because NOBODY gets to make fun of her EXCEPT Tyson (not really, but she appreciated the sentiment).
Max and Ray however, are probably the best since they are social enough/grew up with girls, tend to be more mature and its nothing unusual for them. Max especially jokingly likes to flirt with Hilary (mostly in hopes to get out of trouble), while Ray just appreciates to have someone on the team who isn’t absolutely nuts in their own way (he says, as he scales mountains in a single leap like a ‘normal’ person). he also downs his Respect Women Juice every morning for breakfast.
I need to know more about Astrid :D How does each of the boys think about her? I find it kinda cute that their so protective of their "sister." < 3
oh, Astrid Rundström is babey! i’m actually surprised you all noticed her, since she’s such a minor character, that’s only been mentioned once!! but, for anyone who is interested; Astrid was one of the kids Sasha had fostered over the years. Astrid came from a very bad home and therefore has a rather skittish personality, but thanks to extensive therapy and lots of support and care from Sasha, she has grown to be more confident albeit still introverted. she’s pursuing her dream as an artist in a prestigious art school she had been accepted to. like many of Sasha’s former foster kids, she too was very excited to meet her new brothers, since she had been the most recent one to move out from Sasha’s care.
all of the boys where initially wary of her, as they are with new people, but seeing this very tall young woman with doe eyes and soft smile, they could immediately tell “yeah if people are mean to her, i’ll get very angry”. its a lot of careful back and forth between the two groups but there is this sense of kinship between them – like they recognise the invisible (and even visible) scars left upon them by bad people, so it kind of eases the tension a little as they know, that they have had similar, unpleasant experiences.
Ian of course, usually takes the boldest steps when it comes to socialising and is the first to develop a friendship with Astrid by asking all sorts of questions – its also to ease his brothers a little by taking the attention away. Bryan is the second to strike up a conversation once Astrid mentions her artistic career path and it ends up with Bryan and Ian bickering over who gets to talk with Astrid, since Bryan wants to know more about art but Ian calls it boring. Spencer kind of just goes with the flow, happy to let the first two take the lead but does ask Astrid about her studies and university in general, what the process and life on campus is like. Tala, naturally, takes the longest to warm up, but even if he doesn’t look like it, he’s actively listening. he’s quick to take note about Astrid’s nervousness and her meek disposition, and becomes the first to get gruff with a stranger when they make Astrid too uncomfortable.
all in all, Astrid (and many others) becomes a very familiar figure in the boys life, where they keep up with her over social media and the occasional festive holiday card. it ends up, that upon every question on who is Astrid, the boys just absentmindedly mention that she’s “a sister”.

okay listen Bryan is like this mid-twenty something year old literature/arts teacher in a high school
he’s old enough that the kids respect him from the get-go (if not, he’s quick to pull his Low-key Murder Face that’s enough to make little kids cry on sight)
but also young enough to relate to their mid-life crisis at 15 because the school system sucks and society treats kids like shit
ANYWAY
all his classes are super wary of him because he looks like one minute away to crack someone’s spine clean in half, take all their ribs and build a new shelf with it
so, a few months pass of this fearful respect and the students picking up on his rather unconventional teaching methods
it isn't until Bryan one day snaps and throws the school assigned “safe” book they’re supposed to read out of the fucking window and went like “alright gang, fuck this” and just whips out his own copy of Fahrenheit-451 and begins reading to them, making them take notes on the key conflicts within the book and reviews them next class
that’s when the kids figure out their young teacher is nuts in the best way possible
after that, he’s popularity rises amongst his students and the other more traditional teachers continuously try to get him removed because he implements “bad ideas” within the students
fuck ‘em, he’s giving his students a voice and each of his literature classes nearly start a damn revolution with him every time
it’s fantastic
his art classes are a little quieter
he took one look at the required curriculum and what the students were supposed to present and torched the entire paper
during drawing time he sits down on his own easel and paints with them and his students love watching him
he’s like an angrier Bob Ross
one of his students told him that and he had to choke down tears at the compliment
whenever he needed to provide an example, he has the students gather around him so he can show them what exactly they’ll be learning and literally just let’s them freestyle it to all hell
they once had pottery as a subject and as expected it was a giant mess, they had to replace two windows, but holy shit it was one of the best classes ever – one particular student loved it so much she asked Bryan if she could use pottery as medium for her major
she got an A and went to a prestigious art school, Bryan has all the flyers to her galleries posted onto his classroom walls
Bryan is absolutely real with his students
he doesn’t sugarcoat shit and swears all the time and always tells his students what they need to hear
but by god he cares about his students so much because they’re all just mildly freaked out teenagers who feel like they have to brave the adult world all alone and Bryan just wants to help them find the right footing so they can become confident
so many students flock to him when they feel like they can’t turn to any adult about their questions that feel too silly or about worries that seem insignificant
and Bryan always takes the time to chat with them and help them out whenever he can, the school counsellor gets and influx of students admitting they need some guidance while also realising a good chunk of them rarely have to come by anymore
when the students finally managed to get the exact date of Bryan’s birthday, the first celebration they turned his classroom into a full on ballpit

he still held his class in there, seated in a hot pink flamingo floaty while reciting Hamlet
he also cries at every graduation because over half of the students giving a speech include him in their thanks because he is an amazing teacher and an amazing person and Bryan.

but he just got sucked in in the way those dancers were able to just. portray music with their body alone, it was fascinating

there’s been instances where the radio’s been playing in the kitchen as he’s making himself a snack and his brothers walk in on him humming under his breath while just. expertly shuffling from side to side

Kai is the first to go which is like. logical considering he’s the oldest and most driven out of all of them
not to mention he had the entirety of Hiwatari Corp. about to be put into his name as soon as he reached 18 and he’s just like aw man here we go
to be honest? he’s not keen on taking over the company, never has been (excluding the time where he felt obligated to under his grandfather’s influence) and the thought of actually having too just kinda. embitters him
so he gets himself sucked into the whole Business classes to get himself the necessary qualifications – and despite being bitter, he doesn’t half-ass shit so he studies on the regular
it isn't until Max wrangles him into finally giving his own interests a go and he changes his path to a History Major with a Minor in Business
he is so much happier
History, specifically Ancient History, had always been an avid interest in Kai’s books so he basically dives into his new studies with his own brand of stoic enthusiasm
its also the sole reason why he’s been amassing so many books in his personal collection at home, Hilary had implored him to buy bigger shelves after Max nearly broke his neck tripping over a loose pile
Kai likes to study alone, preferably in his private study (Tyson keeps making fun of him for having a private study at the age of 18, what are you, a grandpa? damn rich kid lmao) with soft instrumental music playing – he’s especially fond of rainy ambience music
of course, Kai is often seated at the back of the classes, but is indisputably one of the best students with very insightful and well-researched essays, naturally, most of his professors adore him
except a select few traditional-minded professors – they’re still bitter that Kai stood his ground when they had overlooked Cleopatra’s history and reduced her to the Ancient Sex Symbol and Kai was ready to cut a bitch at the blatant disrespect towards an Ancient Political Mastermind
the majority in his class has a fat crush on him but thats nothing new
Max, for a long time, had a bit of a dilemma as his parents urge him to start choosing his preferred path; was it going to be Engineering like his Mother or Mechanics like his Father, and honestly? the poor boy was so torn
in the end, he confessed he wanted to do neither – he loved Beyblade but it wasn’t something he wanted to dedicate his life to forever
instead, his heart had always belonged to the ocean and he dreams of being a Marine Biologist
his father was very supportive, while Judy had her doubts so it took a little convincing – in the end, her son’s joy was more important to her and she too gave her blessing for him to pursue his dream
Max goes on to major Zoology, directed towards marine animals, and takes up a minor in Engineering because hey, it pretty much runs in his family and it stayed an avid interest of his
his university wasn’t too far of from Kai’s own, so sometimes when he stays over at Kai’s he gets a free ride to class
he returns the gesture by always providing the best butter croissants for breakfast (they’re still warm too!)
Max usually studies in the campus library, noise-cancelling headphones on, bopping silently to whatever music he’s listening to as he reviews his notes for the next exam
he researches a lot for his topics and has collected so much trivia about the ocean and its inhabitants in general

the professors love Max tbh, he’s always fully engaged within class so they usually let him get away with things mainly bc he’s just their Favourite
pretty sure half of the university knows of Max in some way or another, being a social butterfly and all and maybe having flooded the campus once by accident
Ray also had a hard time deciding what to do and what to study; being from a rural village with traditions certainly made him question wether he should pursue a modern career or stay within his community
the White Tigers were quick to kick his ass over it however, booting him straight to Kai’s doorstep and telling him to do what he feels was right for him
now, he’s managed to get himself applied to one of the prestigious university for culinary arts – he’s not too sure yet which path he wants to take in terms of culinary skill
he loves cooking and working in a kitchen, however after many work experiences he has found that working at the command of someone else wasn't exactly to his tastes, not to mention, he’d like to dabble in more traditional culinary arts
as of now, Ray particularly enjoys the sweeter side of cooking, preferring to create intricate pastries and confectionaries, often stemming from his chinese roots but also applying his skill within the japanese side of things
his homemade mooncakes are honestly to die for
next to his obvious passion for cooking, he’s also taken up classes in horticulture, mainly bc he’d love to grow his own ingredients and create his own sets of spices and various artisan products
since his career path is very labour focused, he often practices at home and takes inspiration from various chefs all around the world. his bookshelves are full of recipe books and general insightful cookbooks
Max had suggested to him to make videos of his dishes, mainly for self-improvement, but also being able to put them online to start a crowd interest for his work
its going pretty well actually, his videos have become quite popular since they are aesthetically pleasing, the food looks tasty as hell and also a wide crowd of older people have voiced their joy in seeing more traditional confectionary being made
his friends secretly love their birthdays nowadays bc without fail, Ray always gifts them homemade foods, from neat boxes of handcrafted chocolates to cute jars of sweet jams
he knows, he always takes time to create flavours he knows they will appreciate
Tyson, surprisingly, knew exactly what he wanted to do, and it wasn’t anything to do with Beyblade

look, he loves Beyblade, it’s something he’ll treasure all his life, something he’ll still pursue in the future, but
it won’t be what he wants to do full time
instead, he majors in Anthropology in order to pave his way into Archeology and everyone is so proud they start crying
next to his Major, he also minors in Business, mainly due to his longstanding position within the BBA, with whom he stays as a particular poster boy and star
next to his work with the BBA, he occasionally helps out in the Dojo and everyone kinda realises? that this guy is literally holding down two (2) whole jobs while also studying and if that isn't hardcore my dudes i don’t know
then again, he’s grown a lot and his interest in his father’s career had always accompanied him since he was a kid – however, his studying habits are still all kinds of atrocious and the only reason why he can even halfway ace his exams is bc he refuses to go down quietly, actually is really critical and analytical is he puts his head into it, and the fact that he employs Hilary to stand vigil with a rolled up magazine to smack him back into focus should he slack off
otherwise, he’s friends with most people in his class and regularly exchanges notes with them and even has become a favourite with a select few of his professors
most just find him exhausting but can’t refute his elaborate essays, which are both thoughtful as eyebrow raising
he attends the same university as Kai (much to his chagrin) and they stick together just as much as they bicker (one-sidedly) just like old times – however, they are both ancient history buffs and its one of the very few topics that they can be heard talking about in actual peace without Tyson going apeshit when Kai loses interest in the conversation
Tyson and Kai are also those college students who pull ridiculous all nighters to study
Max once got so nervous for an exam he made a terrifying concoction of Red Bull and Instant Coffee to stay up and study
he aced the exam but he cannot for the life of him remember what he did in those 24hours bc as soon as he went home he crashed for nearly 32hours straight
Tyson and Ray who were present at the time refuse to speak about it and when asked about it, they kinda just. disassociate for a minute at the sheer horror they had witnessed
Kai rarely ever communicates with classmates yet somehow gets always invited to all the frat parties

listen i know we all dream of him being able to flip shit all breakdance style but
god, this kid can’t dance to save his life
he’s way too stiff for that and he has no idea what to take from the general atmosphere
(trauma does that to you)
while im pretty sure he knows AT LEAST some form of ballroom dancing (fukin rich kid) he’s not an avid dancer nor has he any desire to be
the most you’ll see him do is like. tap his foot to the music if he likes it
otherwise he’s very good at the Disappear Instantly move

okay not going to lie; he’s a bit like Kai
he’s not bad per se, he just. doesn’t care very much about dancing
he probably knows a very basic waltz very well
otherwise he’ll prefer to just. stick to a corner and watch and drink fruit punch or work on his laptop
he does have pretty wild moves tho, mostly saved for very enthusiastic moments like seeing his team win, but he won’t use them on the dance floor or anything
however, there was one memorable party where someone spiked the punch and Kenny had a little too much and kinda went ham
he doesn’t remember half of that evening anymore
also all devices containing incriminating videos mysteriously short circuited

like sure, he took some tap-dancing classes when he was a kid
but those didn’t stick very well into actual dancing than it did to his martial arts
he’s hella awkward on the dance floor

we know this kid was pretty much glued to hip with Max, so he pretty much picked up everything from the other
usually it looks goofy because thats just how Tyson is, he loves it when his friends laugh when they’re too shy to make the first move
so, he just puts himself out there, getting all funky fresh and you know he’s gonna pull everyone into his orbit
and after he got everyone to move, he busts out his actual repertoire in dance moves and they’re??
not bad??
he’s actually pretty good, easily being able to move with the rhythm
he’s the absolute in shuffling his feet all light and quick, Kai was kinda miffed that he wouldn’t move like that during training where it actually mattered
either way, Tyson doesnt mind getting all down with the fancy footwork, its fun!! especially with friends!!
also, him and Max? Unparalleled.

i wonder who was actually surprised because i sure am not
c’mon, he’s an active cheerful kid who regularly hangs out with all sorts of people in America, he definitely learned how to hold his own when it comes to dancing
also; its fun!
this kid would hear any music and you can already see him bobbing his head and shaking his shoulders – its just a feel good thing
he’s very versatile – he can go from typical college frat boy bop to actual choreography he copied from watching videos/actual dancers performing
its. pretty impressive
but really. Max is just in it for all the good fun; he’s pretty much known for making up little dances on the spot whenever he has to wait
its not rare to see him and Tyson goof off and challenging each other to ridiculous dance offs
he’s been pretty much banned from dancing to Light It Up by Major Lazer bc he makes everyone just look bad

a bit of a shy dancer at first
she’s never been particularly interested before, but seeing everyone having so much fun, she did get curious
so she has Max show her some moves and she picked the few that she liked and went with it
she’s quite good too!!

she always starts off with this cute little shimmy before being spun around by the boys
once on her birthday, Kai gave her a spin in a classic ballroom dance and she was so happy and nervous she stepped on his foot twice
