Do any of Tav & Shadowheart’s animals have a preference for one of their moms over the other?? I can just picture Shadowheart being so smug about a cat choosing her and Tav being perfectly ok with that because c’mon. HER wife being so cute with a cat??? If she were a cat she’d pick Shadowheart too.

We all know Buttons is Shadowheart’s. Tav was in Avernus when she found him, so while he likes Tav and recognizes that Shadowheart does, she is not his leader. I think Tav even remarks once that “I’m not Shadowheart, I know” and assuages his disappointment with a head pat. She gets it. She is also inwardly disappointed when anyone but Shadowheart approaches her 😁

Scratch is Tav’s bff. He loves her and Shads equally, but Tav is his go-to. They bonded the most. He’s Tav’s Buttons, if you will. They cuddle often and he’s the one accompanying Tav around the property when she works. Besties 🥹

The resident squirrel hates Tav! Probably throws acorns at her head or something idk. Keeps her on her toes. Shadowheart is endlessly amused by that. Tav never assumed that she’d have to compete with a damned squirrel for Shadowheart’s attention- she’d anticipated just about everyone else vying for her love, but…not the squirrel lmao.

Other than that, I’d say they have their fair share of animal friends, each. Tav has her fave kitties that she practices her proposal with. Daphne is cool with everyone. The dogs are happy-go-lucky and enjoy everyone, but find a pack master in Arnell ☺️

Owlbear loves them both!!! He knows they’re both kind and sweet and he trusts them equally. I HC that owlbear fucking adores Emmeline bc of how soft spoken and sweet she is. Wherever she goes, Owlbear isn’t too far off. They just seem like the most wholesome duo. And whenever Owlbear misses his mom, Emmeline is right there 🥹

Baby Jen is not an animal lmao but I do think it’s funny that she knows exactly which mommy to turn to every time. She knows how to play Serena like a fiddle, she knows Serena is WEAK for her babyHeart 😅 she’s a menace. Jen knows Shadowheart is onto her schemes (because they’re identical to Shadowheart’s own lol). Poor Serena.

Side note- (Speaking of Shadowheart and cats, I’m writing a little autumn piece for Consonance and there’s a surprise involved 🥰)

Baby Jen 100% has her mum’s big wet puppy dog eyes when she’s sad and her skrunkly face when she’s disgusted.

Serena is obsessed. She’s just holding up her bite-sized little BabyHeart with the proudest smile and tears in her adoring gaze. I say it all the time but she has two (2!) Shadowhearts now. She feels like she won the mf lottery in this life.

And she’s STILL excited like that, even when Baby Jen is being petulant and throwing a little temper tantrum, making the famous “Shadowheart Disapproves” frown.

Shadowheart will always sigh exasperatedly and ask “how ever did you put up with me?”

And Serena just tells her “How ever did I get on without you both, is the question.”

And…oop Shadowheart is suddenly ready for another 🥵

Tav is easy-going, lived by herself a lot of her life, understands being an outcast in a certain sense…idk I think she’s a Yoshi/DryBones/ShyGuy. She’s sus like that and I love her for it. She has no time for the mainstays, the Marios and Luigi’s of the world. She is an independent thinker and values their originality and cool design. (Her words)

If it’s in public, Jen is choosing something hard or edgy. Shadowheart is a stone cold bad bitch. BUT REALLY, in private, Jen is a basic bitch that takes Peach or Toadette every time and acts like she isn’t inwardly the softest bubblegum pink girly to ever live. If she’s in an edgy mood she picks Rosalina (Tav teases her about the fringe and how it looks like her but blonde😅).

(Jen has not figured out that Tav lets her win. She is so focused on not fucking up that she hasn’t noticed Tav has set her controller aside and is just gazing at her smile, deeply in love).

He LOVES getting to be a dad!!! He loves that he can still make Shadowheart feel safe in their home in some capacity!

He loves that Tav thanks him with a kiss on the cheek and always saves him her slice of dessert as a thank you for being their protector!

He loves that Emmeline teases him and calls him a hero afterwards!!!!
